The travelling festival through villages, hermitages, and towers stops in Penne
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Accendiamo il Medioevo is a travelling cultural festival promoted by the Pescaratutela Cultural Association, dedicated to enhancing the medieval heritage of the Pescara province. Established in 2019 and reaching its sixth edition in 2025, the festival does not take place in a single location but travels throughout the year across numerous municipalities in the Pescara area, leading visitors to discover often-overlooked villages, hermitages, towers, and bell towers. The artistic direction is led by Federico Moccia, while the organizational management is handled by Licio Di Biase.
Among the most fascinating destinations on the travelling calendar is Penne, a town in the Province of Pescara known as the "city of bricks" for the characteristic use of brick in its historic architecture. The historic centre of Penne, one of the most harmonious in Abruzzo, provides an ideal setting for a festival that weaves together history, art, and tradition. The Penne stop offers an itinerary to discover the city's monuments: churches, noble palaces, and towers that recount centuries of local history.
The festival format features a day packed with events, designed for an audience curious and attentive to cultural heritage:
With Accendiamo il Medioevo, the Pescaratutela Association pursues the goal of making the historical heritage of the involved municipalities more accessible and recognizable, moving beyond the summer concentration of events and distributing initiatives throughout the year. The festival thus combines popularization, slow tourism, and the enhancement of small towns, offering residents and visitors the chance to rediscover the medieval soul of Abruzzo. The Penne stop, in the Municipality of Penne in the Province of Pescara, represents one of the most anticipated appointments of this cultural itinerary.
The dates and programme for the 2026 edition of Accendiamo il Medioevo have not yet been announced. In previous years, the Penne stop has taken place in May, as part of the travelling calendar that crosses the municipalities of the Province of Pescara. As soon as the Pescaratutela Association releases the new dates and programme details, this page will be updated.
Penne is located in the Province of Pescara, in the Abruzzo hinterland. By car, it can be reached from the A14 motorway (Pescara-Cittร Sant'Angelo exit), then continuing along the state road towards the interior. The nearest railway station is Pescara, connected to Penne by local bus lines.
Guided tours and lunch are by reservation only. The cost of the convivial lunch is approximately between 30 and 50 euros. For information and bookings, it is recommended to contact the organizers through the Pescaratutela Association channels.
Comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for walking in the historic centre, characterized by alleys and slopes, are recommended.
