Outdoor evening concert by the Gargazzone brass band in South Tyrol
The Abendkonzert of the Musikkapelle Gargazon is one of the most cherished musical traditions in Gargazzone (known as Gargazon in German), a small town in the Burgraviato area nestled along the Adige river between Merano and Bolzano, in the autonomous province of Bolzano, Trentino-Alto Adige. On summer evenings, the local brass band gathers at the Musikpavillon of the Festplatz to offer residents and visitors a free open-air concert, a custom that has been part of village life for generations.
The Musikkapelle Gargazon was founded in 1840 and today boasts about forty musicians, accompanied by the Marketenderinnen in traditional costume. The ensemble is led by Kapellmeisterin Stefanie Menz, while the presidency (Obmann) is held by Georg Zischg. Throughout the year, the band accompanies numerous religious and civic celebrations in the village and places special emphasis on youth training, with a junior band that prepares new members in small ensembles.
The evening concert, also presented under the title Musikalischer Cocktail, features a varied and lively program designed for a summer audience: South Tyrolean and Central European marches, overtures and concert band pieces, traditional polkas and waltzes, as well as arrangements of light melodies and soundtracks. It follows the classic formula of alpine open-air band concerts, where folk music meets stage repertoire in a convivial and family-friendly atmosphere.
Thanks to its location along the railway and the valley road between Merano and Bolzano, Gargazzone is easily accessible, making the concert a delightful way to combine an evening of live music with the discovery of the Burgraviato landscape and its traditions.
The 2026 evening concert of the Musikkapelle Gargazon took place on Thursday, May 14, 2026, from 8:00 PM, at the Musikpavillon of the Festplatz in Gargazzone (Gargazon), in the province of Bolzano. Under the direction of Stefanie Menz, the more than forty musicians enlivened the evening with the "Musikalischer Cocktail" program, a brilliant selection of marches, overtures, polkas, waltzes, and concert pieces for brass band. The open-air evening, with free admission, confirmed the band's role as a cornerstone of the cultural life of the village along the Adige.
Gargazzone (Gargazon) is located in the Adige Valley between Merano and Bolzano. The town is served by the Bolzano-Merano railway line and is connected by the valley floor state road and the MeBo expressway (Gargazzone/Nalles exit).
The concert is held at the Musikpavillon of the Festplatz, typically starting around 8:00 PM. Admission is free and no reservation is required. In case of bad weather, the event may be moved or cancelled.
