The Abbazie Summer Festival is one of Abruzzo's most prestigious musical events—a traveling festival that brings international jazz, classical music, and contemporary fusion to the landmarks of the Teramo province every summer. Organized by the Luzmek ETS association as part of the 'Concerti delle Abbazie' project, the festival features dozens of performances spread across Romanesque abbeys, cloisters, villages, and historic squares throughout the Teramo Hills and the Valley of the Abbeys.

In the town of Mosciano Sant'Angelo, the festival finds one of its most evocative settings: Piazza del Giglio, the heart of the village of Montone. It is here in Montone that the festival often hosts its inaugural concert, featuring some of the most respected names in world jazz, set within the intimate and charming atmosphere of the historic stone center.

Montone and Piazza del Giglio

Montone is one of the historic hamlets of Mosciano Sant'Angelo, overlooking the rolling hills that slope down toward the Adriatic Sea. On summer evenings, Piazza del Giglio transforms into a natural open-air amphitheater. The stage, set amidst the village buildings, offers intimate acoustics and a breathtaking backdrop where music dialogues with the architecture and the landscape of the Teramo Hills.

The festival has grown into a nationally and internationally recognized event, attracting world-famous musicians and thousands of spectators. Traditionally divided into two sections, Abbazie Jazz and Abbazie Classica, the festival involves a dozen municipalities in the province of Teramo, including Giulianova, Roseto degli Abruzzi, Cellino Attanasio, Canzano, Castel Castagna, Isola del Gran Sasso, and Mosciano Sant'Angelo. The Montone concert often serves as the grand opening of the entire festival, featuring a major international headliner.
