Peasant evening gatherings in the farmsteads of the Montespertoli hills
A Veglia sulle Aie is the summer festival that brings back one of the most deeply rooted traditions of the Tuscan countryside: the veglia, that evening moment when, in the past, farming families would gather on the threshing floor to chat, eat, sing, and spend time together after a long day in the fields. Now in its thirteenth year, the event takes place in Montespertoli, a municipality in the Florentine Chianti area in the province of Florence, in the heart of Tuscany, transforming local farmsteads, cellars, and agricultural estates into open-air stages.
The concept is simple and charming: eight local farms in the Montespertoli area take turns hosting the 'veglia', each for one week. From June 23 to August 25, 2026, every farm opens its threshing floor to welcome visitors, offering the best of their food and wine production amidst a landscape of vineyards, olive groves, and rolling hills. It is a traveling journey that allows you to discover, week after week, different corners of the Montespertoli countryside.
Promoted by the Municipality of Montespertoli with the patronage of the Tuscany Region, A Veglia sulle Aie is much more than a food festival: it is a community celebration that enhances the rural identity of the area, supports local farms, and offers residents and tourists the chance to experience the Tuscan countryside in its most authentic form. As noted by the Councilor for Culture, Annalisa Giotti, it is now "an event that our territory looks forward to every year with great affection." Affordable prices and a family-friendly atmosphere make it one of the most genuine summer experiences in the Florentine Chianti.
The 2026 edition of A Veglia sulle Aie kicks off on June 23 and continues until August 25. Eight farmsteads in the Montespertoli area take turns hosting the gatherings, each for one week, offering wine tastings, farm-to-table products, themed dinners, walks through vineyards and olive groves, workshops, storytelling, live music, stargazing, and activities for children. The snack formula with wine and tastings at an affordable price remains the convivial heart of the event.
At each stop, immersed in the rural landscape of Montespertoli, there are wine and local product tastings, walks through vineyards and olive groves, agricultural craft workshops, storytelling, musical performances, stargazing, and children's activities.
Montespertoli can be reached by car from the Florence-Pisa-Livorno highway (Ginestra Fiorentina or Empoli exit) and is about 35 km from Florence. The individual events take place at various farmsteads scattered throughout the municipal area: it is best to travel by car and check the address of the host farm each time.
The festival runs from June 23 to August 25, 2026, with a different location each week. Activities are concentrated in the evening hours.
A snack with a glass of wine and a taste of local products costs 8 euros; the inaugural dinner on June 23 at Enoteca I Lecci is priced at 20 euros, including wine. For information and reservations: Montespertoli Tourist Office, tel. +39 0571 600255, [email protected].
