The theatre review of Casalfiumanese dedicated to Danilo Poggiali
A teatro con Nilo is the spring theatre review in Casalfiumanese, a town in the Santerno valley in the Bolognese Apennines, in Emilia-Romagna. Launched in 2007 by the municipal administration, the review is named in memory of the late Danilo Poggiali, affectionately known as "Nilo", and was created with a specific goal: to stimulate the interests of the younger segments of the population and contribute to the prevention of school dropout through the language of the stage.
The schedule runs from April to May and brings theatre to three venues within the municipality: the municipal theatre on Via 2 Giugno in the main town, the multi-purpose hall in the historic centre (on Via Matteotti), and the civic hall in the hamlet of San Martino in Pedriolo. This distributed choice is part of the review's identity, aiming to be a local theatre capable of reaching even the small communities in the valley.
The heart of A teatro con Nilo are the amateur companies that have been animating the Municipality of Casalfiumanese and the Imola area for years: the Compagnia Instabile and its youth section Instabile Jr, the Compagnia Sottotono with its youth section Sottotono Jr, the Compagnia Volpi e Ranocchi, and the Compagnia L'Isola del Teatro. The programme alternates comedies, mysteries, and children's stories, often directed by local directors like Giulio Colli, in a repertoire ranging from light entertainment to more intimate reflections.
The review is part of the "Nella splendida cornice โ Sulle strade del teatro per ragazzi" (In the splendid setting โ On the roads of theatre for children) project, a cultural initiative by the Imola Cultural District and the Nuovo Circondario Imolese, realised in synergy with the "Federica Negri" Cultural Association. A teatro con Nilo is therefore a piece of a larger network that promotes amateur theatre and theatre for new generations throughout the Imola area, in the province of Bologna.
All performances have free admission, in line with the popular and inclusive nature of the initiative. For the audience, it's an opportunity to enjoy quality theatre evenings close to home, supporting local companies; for visitors, it's an authentic way to experience the cultural life of a village in the Emilia-Romagna Apennines, far from the major circuits.
The 2026 edition of the A teatro con Nilo review offered six performances in Casalfiumanese, in the province of Bologna, spread over five weekends between April and May. The programme, with free admission, confirmed the distributed format across the municipal theatre, the multi-purpose hall in the historic centre, and the civic hall of San Martino in Pedriolo.
Opening on April 18 with Compagnia Instabile Jr and its young performers. The weekend of May 9-10 featured a double bill, with the comedy "Peccato sia un peccato" and the mystery "Omicidio al castello" staged in the two hamlets. Closing on May 23 with "Willy o Momi?" by Compagnia L'Isola del Teatro.
The performances are held in Casalfiumanese (BO), in Emilia-Romagna, at the municipal theatre on Via 2 Giugno, the multi-purpose hall in the historic centre (Via Matteotti), and the civic hall in San Martino in Pedriolo.
By car: Casalfiumanese is accessible via the SS610 Montanara along the Santerno valley, about 15 km from Imola and the A14 motorway exit. By train: Imola station on the Bologna-Rimini line, then a bus connection towards the valley.
Free admission to all performances. Information at the Culture Service of the Municipality of Casalfiumanese, Piazza Armando Cavalli 15.
