Stargazing evenings with telescopes in Soraga di Fassa
A guardar le stelle is the summer event that invites residents and tourists to uncover the secrets of the universe in Soraga di Fassa, a small town in the Val di Fassa nestled in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. The distance from major light pollution sources and the crisp mountain air make these Dolomite evenings the perfect setting for observing the night sky, framed by the peaks of the surrounding mountain range.
Each evening begins in the La Gran Ciasa multipurpose hall, located at the Soraga tourist office, with a short presentation dedicated to the universe: stars, constellations, planets, and astronomical curiosities explained in a simple and accessible way. After the introduction, the audience moves outdoors for direct observation of the starry sky through telescopes provided by the astronomers. In case of bad weather, the evening continues with the indoor presentation only.
The experience is designed for both adults and children: no prior knowledge is required, just the curiosity to look up. As the activity concludes outdoors, we recommend wearing warm evening mountain clothing and comfortable shoes.
The evenings are hosted by the Comitato Manifestazioni Soraga in collaboration with the Gruppo Astrofili della Val di Fiemme, an organization active since 1993 in promoting astronomical science through conferences, public observations, seminars, and exhibitions. The group also manages the Val di Fiemme observatory and digital planetarium in Zanon, above Tesero, and brings its expertise to the towns of the Fiemme and Fassa valleys with events open to everyone.
A guardar le stelle is part of the rich summer calendar of Soraga di Fassa and the wider Val di Fassa, where Ladin traditions, hiking, and cultural offerings alternate throughout the season. This astronomical evening adds a touch of science and wonder to your holiday in the Province of Trento, with the spectacle of the sky lighting up above the Dolomites.
