In Verrua Savoia, within the Metropolitan City of Turin, the local Alpini Group celebrated its 95th anniversary alongside the 4th Festival of the 12th Zone. From May 29th to 31st, 2026, the town came alive with flag-raising ceremonies by local schoolchildren, the inauguration of the new headquarters, a twinning ceremony with the Pessinetto Group, choral performances, entertainment, and a grand closing ceremony featuring the La Fenice Band and over fifty banners from across Italy.

A celebration for the 95th anniversary of the Verrua Savoia Alpini

In May 2026, the Verrua Savoia Alpini Group, based in a small town overlooking the Po River in the Metropolitan City of Turin, Piedmont, marked a significant milestone: its 95th anniversary. The occasion was celebrated in conjunction with the 4th Festival of the 12th Zone of the National Alpini Association, bringing together the 'black feathers' from the seven municipalities of the zone and numerous delegations from all over Italy for three days of festivities.

The three-day program

The celebrations took place from Friday, May 29th, to Sunday, May 31st, 2026, featuring a calendar rich in institutional, cultural, and community events.

  • Friday, May 29th: Flag-raising ceremony with the national anthem sung by children from the primary schools of Verrua, Brusasco, and Cavagnolo, followed by activities for children with Giuly the mule, the Civil Protection, and the youth of the Summer Camps; in the evening, a performance by the "Cantabile in Coro" choir.
  • Saturday, May 30th: The morning was dedicated to the inauguration of the Group's new headquarters and the twinning between the Alpini Groups of Verrua Savoia and Pessinetto; in the evening, the show "Alpini che bataje" by Loris Gallo.
  • Sunday, May 31st: Institutional ceremonies featuring a parade accompanied by the La Fenice Band of Brusasco and the participation of over fifty banners from Alpine sections.

Community, memory, and Alpine roots

The event was attended by numerous authorities, including representatives from the Piedmont Regional Council, the Metropolitan City of Turin, mayors of neighboring towns and the seven municipalities of the 12th Zone, as well as the President of the Turin Section. The involvement of schools and young people highlighted the importance of passing on the memory and values of solidarity and civic commitment inherent to the Alpini tradition.

Verrua Savoia and the Turin Monferrato

Perched among the hills overlooking the Po River, Verrua Savoia preserves the remains of its famous fortress and a strong identity as a frontier town between the Monferrato hills and the plains. The Alpine festival is one of the most cherished events for the local community, blending tradition, conviviality, and a deep connection to the territory.
