Two days of the tricolor, ceremonies, and conviviality with the Modenese Black Feathers
In 2026, Prignano sulla Secchia, a small municipality in the Apennines in the Province of Modena, will host the 82nd Provincial Rally of the Alpini, the great annual gathering that brings together the Black Feathers of the ANA Section of Modena. For a weekend, the town dresses up for a festival, adorned with tricolors and alpine hats, and becomes the meeting point for groups from all over the province, welcomed by the local Alpini Group, the custodian of a long history of volunteerism and attachment to the territory.
The Rally is not just a celebration: it is a solemn moment of remembrance. The official ceremonies, flag-raisings, and wreath-layings at the monuments to the fallen in the hamletsโMontebaranzone, Pigneto, Castelvecchio, and Saltinoโpay homage to those who did not return and to the values that the Alpini have embodied for over a century: solidarity, sense of duty, love for the mountains, and for the Homeland. It is also a day of great popular participation, with the citizens of Prignano and the entire Modenese Apennines called upon to applaud the parade.
The heart of the event is the grand parade on Sunday, accompanied by the notes of the "M. Novara" Alpini Band of Prignano and the Municipal Band of Fanano, which winds through the streets of the center amidst cheering crowds. There are also moments of conviviality typical of the Alpini: the performance of the alpine choir, the gastronomic stand, and the traditional 'rancio' under the marquee at Parco della Pace, where the spirit of friendship and brotherhood that distinguishes the Black Feathers is renewed.
Nestled among the ridges of the Apennines, along the Secchia river valley, Prignano is a village in Emilia-Romagna that preserves a strong connection with its traditions and community. Hosting the Provincial Rally is a source of pride for the town and an opportunity to showcase its territory, hamlets, and Apennine hospitality to all participants.
The 82nd Provincial Rally brought the Black Feathers from all over the province of Modena to Prignano sulla Secchia, with the village decorated in the tricolor for two days of ceremonies and celebration. The program was packed, from the flag-raising on Saturday morning to the concluding 'rancio' on Sunday, with strong involvement from the citizens.
Prignano sulla Secchia is located in the Modenese Apennines, about 40 km from Modena. By car, it can be reached from SP19, going up the Secchia valley; from the A1 motorway, exit at Modena Sud, then follow signs for Sassuolo and the Apennines. The nearest train station is Sassuolo, connected to Modena, from which you can continue by bus or car.
Access to ceremonies, flag-raisings, parades, and public events is free. The traditional Sunday alpine 'rancio' under the marquee at Parco della Pace is by reservation/contribution. For information, contact the Prignano Alpini Group or the ANA Section of Modena.
Comfortable clothing is recommended for following the parade, and it is advisable to arrive early on Sunday morning when the town is particularly crowded.
