The road race connecting Anzio and Nettuno on the Lazio coast
The 10 Km di Nerone is a running event that brings the streets of Anzio and Nettuno to life every June. Located on the Roman coast in the Lazio region, these two neighboring towns provide a stunning backdrop for the race. Established in 2025, the event has quickly become one of the most anticipated dates on the Lazio running calendar, attracting competitive athletes, masters, and casual runners from across central Italy.
The course, approximately ten kilometers long, is entirely paved, flat, and fast—making it ideal for both those chasing a personal best and those running for the sheer pleasure of it. The route showcases the most characteristic landmarks of both cities, alternating between urban stretches and breathtaking sea views. Runners pass from the historic center to the promenade, from the port of Nettuno to the famous Grotte di Nerone (Nero's Caves), the archaeological complex that gives the race its name and highlights the deep connection between this stretch of coast and Roman history.
The 10 Km di Nerone is more than just a race; it is a full weekend dedicated to movement and well-being. On Saturday, the 'Atletica in Piazza' initiative transforms Piazza Garibaldi into an open-air gym, featuring fitness classes, Body Pump and Spinning sessions, activities for children, and themed conferences. A major focus is placed on preventative health: the 'Camper della Salute' (Health Camper) and the event village host free medical screenings in collaboration with the local health authority, ASL Roma 6.
The race also holds deep sentimental value: it is dedicated to the memory of Angela Lepore, namesake of the 'Memorial Angela Lepore', and honors other figures from the local sports community. Alongside the competitive race, the Passeggiata di Nerone and the Metabolic Walk are open to everyone, turning the event into a moment of collective participation and solidarity.
The event is organized by the associations Polis Anzio Atletica and Italia Sport Running, under the aegis of OPES and as part of the 'In Corsa Libera' circuit. The event is supported by the Lazio Region and the municipalities of Anzio and Nettuno, showcasing a collaboration that unites two communities in one great celebration of sport on the Lazio coast.
The second edition of the 10 Km di Nerone confirmed the event's success, gathering over 860 participants across the competitive race and non-competitive walks. The race, valid as a stage of the 'Opes In Corsa Libera' circuit, was held on a ten-kilometer entirely paved track between Anzio and Nettuno. In the men's category, Gabriele Carraroli (A.S.D. Centro Fitness Montello) triumphed with a time of 32'58", while Eleonora Bazzoni (A.S.D. Piano Ma Arriviamo) won the women's race in 38'01". This edition hosted the 2nd Memorial Angela Lepore and honored the memory of Stefano De Blasis, combining competition with remembrance and solidarity.
