Anzio's autumn festival featuring roasted chestnuts, new wine, and charity
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
When autumn arrives on the Roman coast, Anzio hosts the November Chestnut Festival, one of the city's most cherished traditions. For three days, the Campetto dell'Oratorio Parrocchiale dei Santi Pio e Antonio on Via Giacomo Matteotti transforms into a vibrant meeting place where the air is filled with the aroma of roasted chestnuts fresh off the fire, accompanied by the season's new wine. It is a simple, genuine community celebration that brings generations together in the spirit of tradition.
What makes the Anzio Chestnut Festival unique is its menu, which marries autumn flavors with Anzio's maritime identity. Alongside the essential roasted chestnuts and new wine, visitors can enjoy traditional local dishes: fried fish, grilled seafood, prawns, grilled meats, beans and sausage, hearty sandwiches, and local desserts. It is a gastronomic offering that reflects the dual nature of this town in the Province of Rome, overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea while remaining rooted in the fruits of the land.
The festival is more than just a social gathering; it is an event with a strong social mission. As with all initiatives by the Comitato Festeggiamenti Anzio, all proceeds are donated to charity, supporting local pastoral and charitable projects, often in collaboration with local parishes. Participating means enjoying a fun evening while contributing to a good cause.
With open-air evenings, shared tables, music, and conversation, the November Chestnut Festival preserves the authentic spirit of a village fairโa tradition that has been kept alive in Anzio for over twenty years. The event, which reached its twenty-second edition in 2025, has become a staple of the autumn calendar in the Municipality of Anzio and the wider Lazio region, attracting families, residents, and visitors from neighboring coastal towns.
The 2026 edition of the November Chestnut Festival in Anzio has not yet been officially announced. The event traditionally takes place at the beginning of November over a weekend at the Campetto dell'Oratorio dei Santi Pio e Antonio. As soon as the Comitato Festeggiamenti Anzio publishes the dates and program, this page will be updated.
