The final of the world ice sculpture championship in Sesto San Giovanni
The World Ice Art Championship transforms Sesto San Giovanni, in the Metropolitan City of Milan, into the world capital of ice. Piazza Luigi Petazzi hosts the final of the world ice sculpture championship, one of the most spectacular and evocative events on the international artistic scene.
The event brings together twenty-four internationally renowned sculptors from sixteen countries around the world. The artists will work live, in front of the public, with over twenty tons of crystal-clear ice, divided into blocks of 120 kilograms each. Using chisels, hammers, chainsaws, and precision tools, they will bring ephemeral works to life, destined to melt, in a fascinating encounter between art, technique, and nature.
The World Ice Art Championship is part of the program for the Milan-Cortina 2026 Cultural Olympics, testifying to its artistic value and its connection to the major Olympic event. The Sesto San Giovanni final builds on the success of the edition that saw Italy host the championship, consolidating the city's role on the international stage.
The most fascinating aspect of the event is the opportunity for the public to witness the creation of the sculptures. For three days, Piazza Luigi Petazzi becomes a large open-air workshop, where the sculptors' mastery takes shape in works of light and transparency. The awards ceremony crowns the event, decreeing the winners of the world championship.
