Wool carding and spinning demonstrations at the Par Ieri Museum in Stenico
Wool Clouds is the summer event that the Par Ieri Ethnographic Museum in Stenico dedicates to traditional textile arts. At the foot of the imposing Stenico Castle, in the heart of the Giudicarie region and Trentino-Alto Adige, the museum opens its doors for two special afternoons where wool processing becomes a living craft once again, right before the visitors' eyes.
The star of the event is Lorenza Orlandi, from the La filiera della lana farm in Comano, who demonstrates the processing stages step-by-step: from carding, used to detangle and prepare the fibers, to spinning with the spindle and spinning wheel—tools that accompanied the work of mountain women for generations. The public is not just a spectator: the meeting is designed as an "authentic, hands-on experience" where you can observe up close, ask questions, and understand the patience and wisdom hidden behind a simple ball of yarn.
Born from the extensive research of the Stenico 80 «Giuseppe Zorzi» Cultural Circle and opened to the public in 2015, the Par Ieri Museum tells the story of family life, customs, and traditions of the Giudicarie people. The collections include rare glass-plate photographs, an antique loom from Favrio, domestic and agricultural objects donated by locals, and a scale reconstruction of a rural house with its characteristic thatched roof. The exhibition is divided into ten sections dedicated to domestic spaces and farm work, from milk processing to spinning, capturing the rhythm of daily life before modern economic development.
A simple yet precious event that bridges the gap between the region's rural memory and the local wool supply chain, inviting you to slow down and rediscover the value of handed-down traditions.
The Par Ieri Ethnographic Museum in Stenico dedicates two events to textile arts in the summer of 2026: Sunday, July 12 (from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM) and Sunday, August 9. On both dates, Lorenza Orlandi, from the La filiera della lana farm in Comano, guides visitors through the carding and spinning of wool using spindles and spinning wheels.
The initiative, designed as an authentic and hands-on experience, allows both adults and children to observe a traditional Giudicarie craft up close and discover the entire local wool supply chain, from raw fiber to thread.
