About Rome Half Marathon

The Wizz Air Rome Half Marathon by Brooks is Italy's most popular half marathon. Every October, nearly 40,000 runners race through Rome's historic center on a 21.097 km course that starts at the Circus Maximus and finishes beneath the Colosseum, passing by the Roman Forum, Piazza Navona, Piazza del Popolo, and the Spanish Steps. It is an international event that blends top-tier athletics, tourism, and the timeless beauty of the Eternal City, featuring record-breaking Kenyan elites and thousands of amateur runners.

Italy's most popular half marathon

In just a few editions, the Wizz Air Rome Half Marathon by Brooks has become the most beloved road race in the capital and the half marathon with the highest number of participants in Italy. The third edition is scheduled for Sunday, October 18, 2026, in the heart of Rome, with the start and finish in the historic center and approximately 40,000 runners expected from all over the world. The event is organized by RomaOstia SSD in partnership with RCS Sports & Events, under the patronage of Roma Capitale.

A postcard-perfect route through Rome

The race covers the official distance of 21.097 km along a flat, fast course that winds through the iconic landmarks of the Eternal City. The start is at the Circus Maximus, from where athletes run along the Tiber, cross the Umberto I and Regina Margherita bridges, and pass by Piazza Cavour, Piazza del Popolo, and the Spanish Steps. The route continues along Via del Corso, touches Piazza Navona and Largo di Torre Argentina, before reaching Piazza Venezia in front of the Altare della Patria and concluding under the Colosseum. It is an itinerary that turns every kilometer into a guided tour of archaeology, art, and history.

Elite sports and popular celebration

The Rome Half Marathon combines major international distance running with mass participation. In the 2025 edition, Kenyan runner Simon Maywa won in 59'44", setting a new course record and leading an all-Kenyan podium, while Regina Cheptoo took the women's title. Alongside the elite athletes, thousands of amateurs runโ€”with a strong turnout of women and young peopleโ€”in a festive atmosphere that brings the streets of the capital to life for an entire morning.

Races and side events

The half marathon weekend offers a rich calendar of initiatives open to everyone:

  • Longevity Run, a non-competitive run dedicated to wellness;
  • Trofeo Roma conCorre, which rewards the largest groups and clubs;
  • The Roman Way, an experience designed for international runners;
  • Dog Run, a fun run to enjoy with your dog;
  • the Charity Program, which allocates charity bibs to support social projects.

The event is completed by the Expo Village, where participants can collect their bibs and race packs and soak up the pre-race excitement among stands, sponsors, and running-related activities.

Rome, Lazio: running in the Eternal City

Hosted by the Municipality of Rome, the capital of the Lazio region, the Wizz Air Rome Half Marathon by Brooks is much more than a race: it is a unique way to discover the city at a running pace, amidst millennia-old monuments and world-famous squares. The mid-October date, with the mild climate of the Roman autumn, attracts tourists and athletes from every continent, confirming Rome's status as one of the great international running capitals.
