The photography festival on Lake Maggiore
The Verbania Photo Festival is a cultural event that brings world-class photography to the shores of Lake Maggiore, in the municipality of Verbania, the capital of the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola province in Piedmont. Established in 2025 by the AMALAGO ETS association, the festival aims to educate, promote, and share cultural and artistic expressions related to the lakeside region, fostering a dialogue between international photography masters and a curious, passionate audience.
The festival offers a rich program that weaves together photographic exhibitions, conferences featuring authoritative voices from the contemporary scene, and practical training courses. The main exhibition hub is the Museo del Paesaggio in Pallanza, complemented by the Centro Eventi Il Maggiore, while numerous photographic showcases spread across bookstores, artisan shops, and commercial spaces in the historic center bring photography directly into the city streets.
Past editions of the Photo Festival have brought together some of the most illustrious names in global photography, with group shows featuring artists such as Luigi Ghirri, Gabriele Basilico, Franco Fontana, Helmut Newton, and Massimo Vitali. Alongside these big names, the festival highlights auteur projects, experimental research, and ancient techniques, telling the story of photography as both an art form and a tool for interpreting the landscape.
Integrated into Verbania's event calendar, the Photo Festival contributes to a vision of new cultural tourism capable of showcasing the Verbano region beyond the summer season. It offers visitors the perfect opportunity to discover the "garden city" of Lake Maggiore, its museums, and its scenic views, all through the eyes of great photographers.
The Verbania Photo Festival 2026 takes place from September 11 to October 4, 2026, as part of the "Verbania Another Season" autumn cultural program promoted by the Municipality of Verbania. Following its 2025 debut, the event moves to the autumn months, maintaining its successful format of photographic exhibitions, conferences, and training sessions between the Museo del Paesaggio and various city venues.
