In Piosina, a hamlet of Città di Castello in the Province of Perugia, the Wheat Threshing Festival is much more than a summer fair: it is a historical re-enactment that for over forty years has preserved the memory of the peasant civilization of the Upper Tiber Valley. The central event is the night-time threshing, the wheat threshing recreated in the evening in the illuminated area of the Biribino farmhouse, with restored vintage machinery and over a hundred participants bringing to life the gestures and trades of the mid-20th century.
Five days of celebration
Around the re-enactment, the Pro Loco of Piosina builds a five-day program that blends tradition and entertainment: gastronomic stands with peasant dishes, evenings of dancing with live orchestras, cycling and running races, mountain bike gatherings, card tournaments, sports exhibitions, and a concluding Sunday with a solemn Mass and the threshing lunch.
Mid-20th century peasant cuisine
Gastronomy is one of the festival's strong points: handmade tagliatelle with goose sauce, local pork dishes, roasts and braised meats, prepared with traditionally ground flour. An experience that tells the story of the rural identity of the Tifernate territory and makes Piosina, for a few days, the capital of Umbrian peasant tradition.

In 2026, Piosina, a hamlet of Città di Castello, will once again host the Wheat Threshing Festival, one of the most beloved re-enactments of peasant civilization in the Upper Tiber Valley. The event traditionally takes place in mid-July and revolves around the captivating night-time threshing in the illuminated area of the Biribino farmhouse, with five days of gastronomic stands, dances with live orchestras, cycling and running races, and traditional events.
The precise dates and the full program for the 2026 edition have not yet been published. They are announced each year a few weeks before by the Pro Loco of Piosina and the Municipality of Città di Castello.
