We Are Singing Rome – International Choral Festival is the Roman leg of the choral festival circuit organized by the We Are Singing Music Association, which brings together vocal ensembles from across Europe and the globe each year in some of the world's cultural capitals. In Rome, the event typically takes place in early July, transforming the Campitelli district, in the city's Municipio I, into a widespread stage dedicated to choral singing.

Unlike many choral competitions, We Are Singing Rome is a non-competitive meeting: there are no juries or rankings, just a shared desire to bring choirs of all backgrounds and levels together. Both youth and adult choirs are invited to present open programs featuring traditional folk choral music, regional sacred pieces, contemporary repertoire, and national pop music. Each choir performs in the festival concerts, often including a portion of sacred a cappella repertoire, and shares the stage with groups from other countries.

Dreamlike venues: from the Theatre of Marcellus to the Campitelli cloisters

The charm of this festival lies primarily in its venues. Choirs perform against the backdrop of the Theatre of Marcellus, the only ancient Roman theatre to survive to the present day, commissioned by Emperor Augustus and inaugurated in 13 BC. Other concerts are held in the intimate Chiostro di Campitelli, adjacent to the theatre, and in the Baroque Church of Santa Maria in Portico in Campitelli, whose acoustics enhance sacred polyphony. Singing in these spaces, just a stone's throw from the Capitoline Hill and the Forum, is an experience that blends music, history, and archaeology.

More than just concerts: experiencing Rome as a protagonist

Beyond the performances, the program includes guided city tours designed to help singers discover the treasures of Rome and experience the capital "as the Romans do." The event was born from a collaboration with the Musical Festival of Nations – Concerts of the Tempietto, a historic Roman concert organization, and is part of a summer landscape that sees the Eternal City animated by open-air musical events.
