The international forum that makes Terni a water capital
The Water Forum is an international event that makes Terni and the Valnerina a reference point for reflection on water as a natural, cultural, and economic resource. Promoted by Hydra Museum, the Ecomuseo Terre di Hydra, and Laboratorio Idea, the Forum brings together researchers, institutions, associations, and citizens.
The Forum draws strength from the territory's deep connection with the Marmore Falls, an extraordinary hydraulic work created in Roman times and now recognized as a world heritage site by ICID, an organization linked to the FAO. Here, water is not just nature but the historical and cultural identity of southern Umbria.
The program addresses water from multiple perspectives: climate adaptation in cities, the protection of Lake Piediluco in collaboration with ARPA Umbria, freshwater sports, and shared governance between institutions and communities. Among the most anticipated moments is the world premiere of the UNESCO Report on water resource development. A free event open to the public, the Forum is supported by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Culture, and Tourism, and the Italian National Commission for UNESCO.
The 4th edition of the Water Forum, from March 12 to 15, 2026, had the guiding theme 'fluid ideas' and was held between Terni and the Valnerina, with the main venue at the PalaSì.
The edition celebrated the 2300th anniversary of the Marmore Falls, recognized as a world heritage site by ICID, and hosted the world premiere of the 2026 UNESCO Report on water resources. The program addressed climate adaptation in cities, the protection of Lake Piediluco with ARPA Umbria, freshwater sports, and shared water governance.
Main venue: PalaSì and other spaces in Terni and Valnerina. Free event and open to the public, with the patronage of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Culture, and Tourism, and the Italian National Commission for UNESCO.
Activities take place at the PalaSì in Terni and in various locations throughout the city and Valnerina. Terni is accessible by train and via the E45 and the Terni-Orte expressway.
Free event and open to the public.
