A non-competitive walk between the abbey and the Reghena countryside
In Sesto al Reghena, a village in the Pordenone plain famous for its Benedictine Abbey of Santa Maria in Sylvis, the Camminata Attorno all'Abbazia (Walk Around the Abbey) is held every spring. It's a free-pace, non-competitive recreational walk open to everyone. It's an opportunity to combine the pleasure of outdoor exercise with the discovery of one of the most fascinating places in western Friuli.
The event, part of the FIASP calendar of non-competitive walks, offers four routes of 3, 6, 13, and 21 kilometers, winding through paths, white roads, and paved sections around the Sesto Benedictine monastery. The routes cross the countryside along the Reghena river, through woods, along waterways, and offer views of the abbey, suitable for both families and more trained walkers.
The start and finish are at the Hotel In Sylvis - Ristorante Abate Ermanno. The participation fee is low - 3 euros for FIASP members and 4 euros for non-members - and includes refreshments along the route. The initiative, organized by local walking groups under the FIASP umbrella, is one of the Friulian amateur running events, promoting sport for all and conviviality.
The walk takes place in the municipality of Sesto al Reghena, recognized as an 'Attractive Village of Italy' and among the 'Most Beautiful Villages in Italy'. In addition to the Abbey of Santa Maria in Sylvis, the area offers the charm of the Friulian plain, its waterways, and a historical heritage that provides an ideal backdrop for a day of sport and nature.
