Volon-Trail Premeno: running for a cause

The Volon-Trail Premeno, subtitled "the charity trail," is a sporting and charitable event that enlivens the small town of Premeno every summer. Overlooking Lake Maggiore in the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola province of Piedmont, the event was born in 2019 from the initiative of Marta, a volunteer with the Italian Red Cross, who wanted to merge her passion for the mountains, running, and the local area with her commitment to volunteering.

A race with a heart

What makes the Volon-Trail special is not just its scenic route, but its charitable soul: it is a solidarity race where proceeds are donated by the participating associations to support community projects. The event is organized through a collaboration between the Pro Loco Premeno, the Italian Red Cross, the Alpini Group, and the local Forest Fire Volunteer team. The competitive race is dedicated to the "Claudio Buratti Memorial" in honor of a late volunteer, highlighting the deep bond between the sport and the values of volunteering.

The trails of Premeno

The event offers two ways to participate, suitable for everyone. The competitive race is a 13.5 km trail with approximately 645 meters of elevation gain, winding through mountain paths that touch all the town's landmarks and offer stunning views of the region. For those who prefer a more relaxed experience, there is a 4 km non-competitive walk, open to families and enthusiasts of all levels. Both the start and finish lines are located at Villa Bernocchi, a historic building in the center of Premeno.

More than just a race: a village festival

The Volon-Trail is also a gathering point for the entire Premeno community. After the races, starting in the evening, a large Pasta Party is open to everyone, including supporters, followed by the awards ceremony. It is an opportunity to share the effort and joy of sport in a convivial atmosphere, driven by the spirit of solidarity that serves as the true guiding thread of this Verbano-Cusio-Ossola event.
