The Voci dei Boschi Film Festival is an international showcase of rural and regional cinema held in Costa Vescovato, a small municipality in the Province of Alessandria nestled among the Colli Tortonesi in the heart of south-eastern Piedmont. Founded in 2021 and organised by the APS Associazione Forestieri di Costa Vescovato, the festival has quickly established a distinct identity: bringing world-class cinema to a village of just a few hundred inhabitants while highlighting agricultural realities, traditional knowledge, and the world of wildlife.
Cinema that tells the story of the land
The heart of the festival is its competition, which selects about a dozen works each year—fiction short films and documentaries, live-action or animated—chosen from dozens of entries submitted worldwide via the FilmFreeway platform. Screenings take place in the evening in the charming Piazza della Chiesa and at the Casetta del Ciclista, under the stars of the Colli Tortonesi. Each edition revolves around a theme that serves as a common thread for the programming and debates: from the "darkness" of light pollution to the animal paths of the most recent edition.
More than just a film festival
Voci dei Boschi is about more than just screenings. The programme weaves together travelling previews hosted in the villages of the Tortona valleys (such as Volpedo, Avolasca, and Dernice), theatrical performances, meetings and debates with authors and guests, tastings of local wines and typical products in partner wineries, and evening musical moments with jam sessions and DJ sets. Among the symbolic initiatives is the festival's official wine, "Costa Mescolato," created through the collaboration of several local winemakers.

It is a cultural proposal that brings spectators, directors, and enthusiasts to this corner of Piedmont in search of a different kind of cinema, far from the mainstream circuits.
Voci dei Boschi — edition 2026
In 2026, the Voci dei Boschi Film Festival returns to Costa Vescovato for its sixth edition, dedicated to the theme "On the animal track" (Piste animali), inspired by the thoughts of French philosopher Baptiste Morizot and his invitation to follow animal tracks and view the world from a non-human perspective.
The 2026 edition is also supported by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Tortona, which has confirmed a grant as part of its local development calls. The event will take place in July and August, following the established format that alternates an international short film and documentary competition, travelling previews in the villages of the Tortona valleys, meetings, and convivial moments.

Getting there
Costa Vescovato is located in the Colli Tortonesi, in the Province of Alessandria. By car: take the Tortona motorway exit (A7/A21), then follow the hilly roads towards Val Curone and Valle Ossona. The reference railway station is Tortona, which is well-connected on the Milan-Genoa line; from there, you can continue by car.
