Arterìa's multidisciplinary review weaving together music, theatre, and dialogue
Founded and directed by the Arterìa Association, with artistic direction by pianist and composer Loredana Paolicelli, VivaVerdi is one of Matera's longest-running and most distinctive cultural reviews. In 2026, it reaches its 30th edition, confirming thirty years of uninterrupted programming dedicated to music, musical theatre, training, and dialogue between languages and traditions.
The common thread of the thirtieth-anniversary edition is 'oi diàlogoi' (dialogues, in ancient Greek), a natural evolution of the previous theme 'Intersections'. The review explores dialogue between eras, musical genres, and Mediterranean traditions, in full coherence with Matera's 2026 status as Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue, the year of its twinning with the Moroccan city of Tétouan.
VivaVerdi is not just a programme of concerts: it is a permanent artistic workshop. The programme includes classical and modern music, musical theatre, talks, and guided listening sessions, travelling performances in urban peripheries, masterclasses, workshops, and artistic residencies, involving established and emerging artists. The 'VivaVerdi Multikulti' section and the educational section further expand the offering, with world premieres and training projects.
Arterìa is a Third Sector organisation active since 1990, with international collaborations in France, Croatia, and Germany, and new protocols with Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Finland. This international scope, combined with its roots in the Province of Matera, makes VivaVerdi a benchmark event for the Lucanian public and for visitors to the city throughout the year.
The 30th edition of VivaVerdi, curated by the Arterìa Association, runs throughout 2026 on the theme 'oi diàlogoi'. It begins with the inaugural concert on May 1st, followed by a prologue on June 30th, and the main season from July to December, featuring concerts, musical theatre, performances, masterclasses, and artistic residencies.
