About Viotti Festival Summer Alagna

The Viotti Festival Summer brings world-class classical music to Alagna Valsesia, nestled at the foot of Monte Rosa. Promoted by the Camerata Ducale of Vercelli, this summer series features three August concerts at the Teatro Unione Alagnese, showcasing young piano prodigies, Maestro Guido Rimonda performing with his Stradivari, and award-winning chamber ensembles. It is a prestigious event that blends musical excellence with the stunning alpine backdrop of Alagna Valsesia, in the Province of Vercelli, Northern Piedmont.

Classical music in Alagna Valsesia

The Viotti Festival Summer is the seasonal extension of the prestigious Viotti Festival, a concert series organized in Vercelli by the Associazione Culturale Camerata Ducale ETS, named after the great Piedmontese violinist and composer Giovanni Battista Viotti. Every August, the festival heads to the mountains, hosting three concerts in Alagna Valsesia, a charming Walser village at the foot of Monte Rosa, in the Province of Vercelli, in the heart of the alpine Piedmont region.

The main venue for the Alagna concerts is the historic Teatro Unione Alagnese, an intimate space where the acoustics and mountain atmosphere create a unique dialogue with the classical repertoire. Under the musical direction of Maestro Guido Rimonda and the artistic curation of Cristina Canziani, the event combines the promotion of young talent with the presence of established performers.

The three August 2026 concerts

The 2026 edition, the sixth of the Viotti Festival Summer, features three high-level events in Alagna:

  • Friday, August 21, 6:00 PM — Recital by the young pianist Emma Guercio, an eighteen-year-old artist in residence at the Società dei Concerti in Milan and winner of the Concours Samson François in France.
  • Wednesday, August 26, 4:00 PM — Guido Rimonda and the Soloists of the Camerata Ducale present "Smile – A Stradivari at the Cinema", a musical journey through the most famous movie soundtracks, performed on the Maestro's own Stradivari violin.
  • Friday, August 29, 6:00 PM — The Trio Chimera (Stefano Raccagni on violin, Giorgio Lucchini on cello, Marta Ceretta on piano), winners of the Alberto Burri Prize.

Viotti Express: Music and Nature

Among the most popular offerings is the Viotti Express package, an organized excursion that includes coach transport, a guided tour, lunch, and a concert in Alagna. It is designed to help visitors discover the scenic and cultural beauty of the Valsesia valley, accompanied by the festival's high-quality musical program. It is the perfect opportunity to experience the Monte Rosa territory through a complete immersion in music and nature.

A festival rooted in the territory

The Viotti Festival originated in Vercelli as a project by the Camerata Ducale and has gradually expanded its summer programming to Alagna Valsesia, weaving together musical performances and tourism promotion in the upper Valsesia. The summer series spans concerts in Vercelli (at the Museo Leone and the Basilica of Sant'Andrea) and the mountain events in Alagna, confirming the deep bond between great music and the Piedmontese landscape.
