Grand classical music at the foot of Monte Rosa, in the heart of Valsesia
The Viotti Festival Summer is the seasonal extension of the prestigious Viotti Festival, a concert series organized in Vercelli by the Associazione Culturale Camerata Ducale ETS, named after the great Piedmontese violinist and composer Giovanni Battista Viotti. Every August, the festival heads to the mountains, hosting three concerts in Alagna Valsesia, a charming Walser village at the foot of Monte Rosa, in the Province of Vercelli, in the heart of the alpine Piedmont region.
The main venue for the Alagna concerts is the historic Teatro Unione Alagnese, an intimate space where the acoustics and mountain atmosphere create a unique dialogue with the classical repertoire. Under the musical direction of Maestro Guido Rimonda and the artistic curation of Cristina Canziani, the event combines the promotion of young talent with the presence of established performers.
The 2026 edition, the sixth of the Viotti Festival Summer, features three high-level events in Alagna:
Among the most popular offerings is the Viotti Express package, an organized excursion that includes coach transport, a guided tour, lunch, and a concert in Alagna. It is designed to help visitors discover the scenic and cultural beauty of the Valsesia valley, accompanied by the festival's high-quality musical program. It is the perfect opportunity to experience the Monte Rosa territory through a complete immersion in music and nature.
The Viotti Festival originated in Vercelli as a project by the Camerata Ducale and has gradually expanded its summer programming to Alagna Valsesia, weaving together musical performances and tourism promotion in the upper Valsesia. The summer series spans concerts in Vercelli (at the Museo Leone and the Basilica of Sant'Andrea) and the mountain events in Alagna, confirming the deep bond between great music and the Piedmontese landscape.
The 2026 edition of the Viotti Festival Summer in Alagna Valsesia takes place over three August evenings at the Teatro Unione Alagnese, as part of the broader summer festival organized by the Camerata Ducale, which runs between Vercelli and the Valsesia valley from June 6 to August 29.
The Alagna program is rich and varied: it opens on Friday, August 21 at 6:00 PM with a recital by eighteen-year-old pianist Emma Guercio, an artist in residence at the Società dei Concerti in Milan. On Wednesday, August 26 at 4:00 PM, Maestro Guido Rimonda takes the stage with the Camerata Ducale Soloists for the program "Smile – A Stradivari at the Cinema", dedicated to great film soundtracks. The series concludes on Friday, August 29 at 6:00 PM with the Trio Chimera, winners of the Alberto Burri Prize.
Alagna Valsesia can be reached by car by driving up the entire Valsesia valley (take the Romagnano Sesia–Ghemme exit on the A26 motorway). By train, the reference station is Varallo Sesia, which is connected to Alagna by local bus. For those departing from Vercelli, the Viotti Express coach package is available.
Tickets for the Alagna concerts are affordably priced (starting from around 8–10 euros). The Guido Rimonda concert on August 26 costs 10 euros. Tickets can be purchased at the Viotti Club in Vercelli (Via G. Ferraris 14) or on-site starting one hour before each concert. The Viotti Express package costs approximately 65 euros and includes transport, a guided tour, lunch, and the concert.
