A wandering food and wine tour through the historic center of Pescasseroli
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Vino Transumante is a wandering food and wine tour that, every early September, transforms the historic center of Pescasseroli, in the province of L'Aquila, into a grand culinary itinerary. Conceived and organized by the Pro Loco of Pescasseroli APS, the event invites residents and visitors to stroll through the stone alleys of the village, sampling wines and traditional Abruzzese specialties in an atmosphere of celebration and sharing.
Pescasseroli is the iconic village of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park, serving as its main gateway and visitor center. The Vino Transumante route winds through the streets of the historic center, which developed around the ancient Abbey of Saints Peter and Paul, the most significant Romanesque monument in the Alto Sangro area. A map provided to participants guides them from stop to stop, from the alleys of Via Principe di Napoli to the church square, amidst stone houses and artisan workshops.
The event's name pays homage to transhumance, the ancient seasonal migration of flocks that has defined the identity of the Abruzzo Apennines for centuries. Along the route, you can taste Abruzzese wines and mountain cuisine: cheeses, cured meats, arrosticini, and traditional local recipes. Each stop is an opportunity to discover local producers and authentic flavors.
The tastings are accompanied by live music, featuring Italian folk traditions, and local craft exhibitions that showcase the village's traditional trades. Launched in 2017 and now in its many editions, the event has become one of the highlights of the Pescasseroli summer, attracting visitors from all over Abruzzo and neighboring regions.
Vino Transumante is a deeply identity-driven event for the town of Pescasseroli and the entire Abruzzo region: it combines the promotion of culinary heritage with the rediscovery of pastoral traditions. Its wandering format and free admission make it a festival open to everyone, perfect for ending the summer immersed in the atmosphere of a mountain village.
The 9th edition of Vino Transumante has been announced by the Pro Loco of Pescasseroli, but at this time, the dates and program for the 2026 edition have not yet been made official. Based on tradition, the event is expected to take place in early September, with the wandering route through the village's historic center. For final dates, times, and program, we recommend checking the official channels of the Pro Loco of Pescasseroli.
Pescasseroli can be reached by car from the A25 motorway (Pescina or Cocullo exit), continuing along the SR83 Marsicana road. By train, the nearest station is Avezzano, which is connected by bus services. The historic center is pedestrian-only during the event.
Vino Transumante is traditionally held on the first Saturday of September, in the evening (approximately from 6:30 PM to 11:30 PM).
Admission to the event is free; wine and food tastings are pay-as-you-go. The full program is available at the Tourist Office and on the social media channels of the Pro Loco of Pescasseroli.
