Tuscia wineries offering tastings in the historic center of Vejano
Vejano is a small town in the province of Viterbo, perched along the ancient Via Clodia in the most authentic part of the Lazio region: a land of tuff stone villages, forests, and the rolling countryside of Tuscia. Since 2024, the town has found its signature event in Vini al Borgo: an evening—which has grown rapidly edition after edition—where the historic center transforms into a large open-air wine cellar dedicated to the wines of the Viterbo province.
The heart of the event is Piazza Santa Maria, where tasting stands open at 6 PM. Entry to the village is free, while to taste the wines, you purchase a ticket that includes a wine glass and a branded lanyard (12 € in editions noted by local press), valid for all wines on offer: a classic format for Italian wine festivals, which gains extra charm here thanks to the medieval setting and the intimate scale of the evening, designed more for meeting the winemakers than for large crowds.
Vini al Borgo is a true liquid map of the Tuscia Viterbese: in 2026, over 30 wineries participated, while the 2025 edition gathered about fifty. Producers are grouped by area, a clever way to showcase the variety of the province's terroirs:
Alongside the tasting stands, food stalls offer local delicacies: fried ceciarelli, a typical local fried pasta, and wood-fired pizza. In editions spanning two days, the program has been enriched with activities for all ages: hikes on the trails of Vejano with CAI guides, workshops for children dedicated to making ceciarelli and pizza, and guided tastings of Tuscia wines with Carlo Zucchetti, the "Enogastronomer with the Hat," by reservation and with limited spots.
The event is organized by the BorgoParty RV association together with the Pro Loco and the Veiano.it portal, under the patronage of the Municipality of Vejano. In 2026, the administration led by Mayor Teresa Pasquali won the ARSIAL grant—the regional agency for the development and innovation of agriculture in Lazio—which, together with the Lazio Region, funded the event. This recognition confirms the value of the initiative: more than just a wine festival, Vini al Borgo is a project to enhance the historic center and local food and wine excellence, built with the direct contribution of the village residents.
Because in a single evening, you can taste the best of the Viterbo province's viticulture while speaking directly with the winemakers, all in an intimate village an hour from Rome, far from the most beaten tourist paths. The atmosphere is just right: background music, the scent of fried food and embers, and wine glasses clinking in the alleys until late at night.
For its third edition, Vini al Borgo changed seasons: after its September debuts, the event moved to the beginning of summer, Saturday, June 20, 2026, with tasting stands opening at 6 PM in Piazza Santa Maria. A special edition also due to the support received: the Municipality of Vejano won the ARSIAL 2026 grant, and the event was realized with the contribution of the regional agency and the Lazio Region.
At the tasting stands, there were over 30 Tuscia wineries, grouped by area: Lake Bolsena, the Middle Tiber Valley, the Ceretano Sabatino—the local territory, with ten companies—and the Viterbo Maremma, as well as other wine-growing areas of the Viterbo province. Alongside the wine, food stalls offered local flavors.
The local press reported a very successful evening: hundreds of visitors from the territory and neighboring provinces filled the streets and squares of the village, in the presence of regional councilors Daniele Sabatini and Giulio Zelli. The municipal administration highlighted the synergy between institutions, associations, and citizens, with a special thanks to the residents of the historic center who contributed to the success of the event organized by BorgoParty RV.
