The Night of San Lorenzo in Cocconato
Every year, during the Night of San Lorenzo, the medieval village of Cocconato in the province of Asti joins the national "Village of Wishes" initiative promoted by the I Borghi più Belli d'Italia association. For one evening, the entire historic center, gathered around Piazza Cavour, takes on a fairytale atmosphere that blends emotion, conviviality, and local pride, inviting residents and visitors alike to gaze at the sky and make a wish upon a shooting star.
An evening between sky and table
The heart of the event is the dinner under the stars, a tasting menu that tells the story of the Monferrato region through its typical products: from raw Fassone beef to local cheeses, fresh pasta, and seasonal desserts, all paired with wines curated by the Consortium of Cocconato. Fine dining meets science with astronomical observation of the night sky, led by experts from the Turin Astronomical Observatory and the National Institute for Astrophysics.
The Magic Well of Wishes
The symbol of the event is the Magic Well, a space where every participant can entrust their dream with the motto "Make your wish... will it come true?". It is the gesture that gives the evening its name and, on the night of the shooting stars, unites popular tradition with enchantment.

Included among the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy and overlooking the Monferrato hills—a landscape recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site—Cocconato has always been a land of wine and warm hospitality. Its panoramic position, nicknamed the "Riviera of Monferrato" for its mild climate, makes it the ideal setting for an August night to be experienced with your head in the clouds, wandering through the alleys of the village and savoring the flavors of the Province of Asti.

L'edizione 2026 de Il Borgo dei Desideri a Cocconato è in programma per la Notte di San Lorenzo, secondo il calendario ufficiale comunale che colloca l'iniziativa al 7 agosto 2026. Come ogni anno il borgo astigiano aderisce alla manifestazione nazionale dei Borghi più Belli d'Italia, con la formula consolidata che unisce gastronomia del Monferrato, osservazione astronomica e il rito del Magico Pozzo.

Where it takes place
The Village of Wishes is held in the historic center of Cocconato (AT), centered around Piazza Cavour, in the Asti Monferrato region of Piedmont.
Reservations
The dinner under the stars has limited seating and requires mandatory reservations: please book through Cantina del Ponte at +39 0141 907003.
How to get there
Cocconato is accessible by car from the Monferrato motorway exits (A21 Turin–Piacenza) and via the main roads from Asti and Chivasso; the local train station is on the Asti–Chivasso line.
Tips
Bring comfortable clothing for your evening stroll through the alleys and, if possible, a blanket to enjoy the stargazing for longer.
