The Carnival of Vescovado village

The Vescovado Carnival is one of the most anticipated winter events in the Municipality of Murlo, in the province of Siena. It takes place in Vescovado di Murlo, the municipal seat nestled among the wooded hills of the Crete Senesi, and for one afternoon, it transforms the village streets and central square into an open-air stage filled with masks, confetti, and allegorical floats.

A community tradition

The festival is a traditional event featuring masks and allegorical floats that the Pro Loco Murlo has kept alive for several years, in collaboration with local associations and with the patronage of the Municipality. Masked groups and floats travel through the town center before reaching the square, which serves as the heart of the festivities. Every year, the organizers' creativity brings original and ironic creations to life, blending classic Carnival themes with references to current events.

A celebration for families

The Vescovado Carnival is an event designed specifically for children and families. Between parades, there is no shortage of music, entertainment, and games that involve both adults and children in a carefree, small-town atmosphere. It is the perfect opportunity to experience the village in its most authentic and communal dimension, far from the major tourist crowds.

Vescovado di Murlo and the Crete Senesi

The event is part of the rich calendar of Tuscan Carnivals that bring life to regions and villages between February and March. Vescovado di Murlo is the main hub of a territory known for its hilly landscape, the Castle of Murlo, and the Antiquarium of Poggio Civitate, which houses important Etruscan artifacts. Participating in the Carnival is therefore also a way to discover a lesser-known but authentic corner of the province of Siena.

The event typically takes place on a February afternoon, with a parade of masks and allegorical floats along the streets of the center.
