VeroLibri, the city of books in the heart of Ciociaria

Every summer, as June arrives, Veroli transforms into a city of books. VeroLibri — Let's meet in Veroli is the literary festival promoted by the Municipality of Veroli, through the municipal library, in collaboration with the Ubik Bookstore of Frosinone: a series of author evenings that brings some of the most significant voices in contemporary Italian fiction to this Hernician village. In 2026, the event reached its twelfth edition, cementing its status as one of the premier cultural highlights of the summer in the province of Frosinone and southern Lazio.

The Cloister of Sant'Agostino, a stone stage

The heart of the festival is the Cloister of Sant'Agostino, located on Via Vittorio Emanuele in the historic center of Veroli. The medieval arches of the cloister provide a natural backdrop for the meetings, which are held in the evening, traditionally at 9:30 PM: an intimate and evocative atmosphere where the audience sits just a few meters from the authors, making the dialogue direct and almost familiar. It is this closeness between writers and readers, combined with the beauty of the venue, that has made VeroLibri an event anticipated far beyond the municipal borders.

A simple formula: great authors, free admission

The formula has remained faithful to itself over the years: presentations of novels and essays, conversations led by journalists and cultural professionals, and book signings at the end of the evening. Admission is free until all available seats are taken, as the festival was born with a distinctly popular vocation: to bring the widest possible audience closer to books, from avid readers to curious passersby. Over the years, the program has alternated between fiction, non-fiction, current affairs, and memoirs, hosting literary award winners, television personalities, and emerging new voices.

The 2026 edition: five evenings dedicated to women and a dialogue on institutions

The 2026 program, running from June 5th to 29th, focused on contemporary fiction with a strong presence of female authors: Francesca Giannone, a publishing phenomenon of recent years; Stefania Auci, author of the Florio saga; debut novelist Marina Zucchelli with a story set between Ciociaria and Bologna; Antonella Mollicone; and journalist Serena Bortone. Completing the program was a meeting with magistrate Angelo Aliquò in conversation with the Prefect of Frosinone.

Veroli, a village to discover

VeroLibri is also an opportunity to discover Veroli, one of the most fascinating villages in Ciociaria: a city of Hernician origins perched on the slopes of the Ernici Mountains, it houses the Basilica of Santa Salome with its Holy Stairs, the Roman-era Fasti Verulani, and the Abbey of Casamari just a few kilometers away. The festival is part of the Municipality's broader summer program, which enlivens squares and districts with music, theater, sports, and popular traditions.

A cultural landmark for the region

In over ten years of activity, the festival has built a loyal audience and made Veroli a reference point for the promotion of reading in the Lazio Region. It is a cultural project that demonstrates how even a provincial town can engage, every summer, with the leading figures of the national publishing scene.
