About Velarìa

Thirteen great historic sailing ships moored at Molo Italia, open for public visits: Velarìa is born in La Spezia, the first international maritime festival that makes the city a stopover on the Mediterranean Way, alongside Sète in France and Castellón in Spain. A free event celebrating sea culture and the great sailing tradition, in the heart of the Gulf of Poets.

La Spezia: A Star of the Sea

Velarìa – Scalo alla Spezia is the new international maritime festival of the Ligurian capital. In its first edition, it brings a fleet of great historic sailing ships from across the Mediterranean to Molo Italia, moored one after another along the quay and open for free public visits.

Thirteen Ships to Discover

Among the featured vessels are prestigious names in sailing: from Nave Italia to the Spanish galleon Galeon Andalucia, from Nao Victoria to La Grace, as well as the brigantine Phoenix and the sailing ship Pascal Flores. A sequence of historic hulls winding from the pier entrance to the lighthouse, recounting centuries of navigation history.

The Mediterranean Way

Velarìa is the first stop of the Mediterranean Way, an itinerary connecting La Spezia with two other Mediterranean ports, Sète in France and Castellón in Spain. The opening coincides with the final day of the San Giuseppe Fair, offering the city a weekend blending sea, tradition, and culture.

Velarìa — edition 2026

The first edition of Velarìa brings thirteen great historic sailing ships to La Spezia's Molo Italia from March 20 to 22, 2026, open for free visits by reservation. The event inaugurates the Mediterranean Way, which continues in France (Sète) and Spain (Castellón), and coincides with the final day of the San Giuseppe Fair.

The first edition of Velarìa takes place at Molo Italia from March 20 to 22, 2026. Thirteen historic sailing ships are moored along the quay and open for free public visits, by online reservation.

The event marks the first stop of the Mediterranean Way, which continues in France (March 31 - April 6) and Spain (April 9-13). The opening coincides with the final day of the San Giuseppe Fair, for a city weekend dedicated to the sea, tradition, and culture.
