Sails in the Lagoon
Velalonga is the great sailing event that animates the northern lagoon of Venice every year, starting from Punta San Giuliano, in Mestre, as part of the Nuovo Polo Nautico Sportivo. Organized by Circolo Velico Casanova ASD, it brings together dozens of crews for a day that is a festival, gathering, and sailing trip all in one.
The Route
The itinerary touches some of the most evocative places in the lagoon: Venice, Murano, Sant'Erasmo, and Le Vignole, on a route that intertwines history, culture, and nature. The protagonists are boats for proximity sailing: dinghies, lateen-rigged boats, small keelboats, multihulls, catamarans, and boats designed for navigating in protected waters.
A Celebration More Than a Race
Velalonga focuses on community spirit and passion for sailing rather than pure competition. The day concludes in the afternoon with the traditional awards ceremony at the headquarters of Circolo Velico Casanova in Punta San Giuliano. It is one of the most beloved events for sailors from Venice and the Veneto region, capable of restoring the lagoon's sporting and popular character.

Velalonga 2026 returns on Sunday, May 31st, organized by Circolo Velico Casanova ASD at Punta San Giuliano, Mestre. The event focuses on proximity sailing, with a route in the northern lagoon touching Venice, Murano, Sant'Erasmo, and Le Vignole.
The day begins with the briefing in the morning and departure in the late morning, concluding in the afternoon with the traditional awards ceremony at the club's headquarters.

How to get there
Punta San Giuliano is located in Mestre, on the edge of the lagoon, reachable from Venice Mestre station by urban public transport and served by parking lots near the park.
