The festival of the vegetable garden and peasant cuisine in Balanzano
The Vegetable Garden Festival takes place in Balanzano, a hamlet of the Municipality of Perugia located along the route connecting the provincial capital to Ponte San Giovanni, in the heart of the province of Perugia. Organized by the local Pro Loco, it is a village festival that celebrates Umbrian peasant cuisine and garden produce, faithful to a proven formula that attracts thousands of visitors from the entire Perugian area every year.
The strong point of the event is the rich menu of typical dishes, rigorously prepared with local and short-chain products. Among the offerings of the food stands you will find:
Special menus are also available, from snail tasting to the baby menu for the little ones.
The Vegetable Garden Festival is among the few Umbrian events to have obtained the regional 3-leaf brand, the highest recognition awarded by the Region to festivals that are virtuous in environmental terms: separate waste collection, waste reduction, and attention to the local supply chain are an integral part of the event.
In addition to dining, the festival is a meeting point for the entire community: every evening there is dancing with live orchestras and DJ sets, in a convivial atmosphere that makes Balanzano one of the most popular summer stops on the Perugian calendar.
The 2026 Vegetable Garden Festival returns to Balanzano from June 12th to 21st for ten evenings dedicated to Umbrian peasant cuisine and garden produce. The food stands open every evening from 7:30 PM, offering the full traditional menu, from tagliatelle with snail sauce to torta al testo, to pork shank and grilled lamb chops (agnello scottadito). This year again, the formula with music and dancing in two distinct areas is confirmed.
Among the orchestras and artists announced for the dancing evenings are Orchestra Matteo Tassi, Orient Express, Atmosfera Blu, Marco e Claudia, Manuel Malanotte, Omar Lambertini, Ilaria Cenciarini, Suonami Band, Marco Cimarelli Band, and Roberto Carpineti.
The detailed schedule for each evening will be published on the Pro Loco Balanzano Facebook page in the weeks preceding the event.
Balanzano is located a few minutes from Perugia center and Ponte San Giovanni, reachable by car from the E45 (Ponte San Giovanni exit) or from the urban roads of the provincial capital. Ponte San Giovanni train station is the closest.
Food stands open from 7:30 PM. Free admission to the festival area; you only pay for what you consume.
