Opera comes to Grigno
The Valsugana and Vigolana International Festival is a traveling opera series that traverses the municipalities of the Valsugana valley and the Vigolana Plateau in the province of Trento, in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. Conceived and produced by the Belcanto Academy APS under the artistic direction of soprano Francesca Micarelli, the festival transforms spa squares, ancient churches, castles, and auditoriums into stages for opera, bringing this heritage closer to the general public.
In the municipality of Grigno, at the eastern end of the lower Valsugana near the border with Veneto, the festival presents an opera concert that highlights one of the most characteristic villages in the valley floor. Overlooking the Brenta River and surrounded by the slopes of the Lagorai and the Sette Comuni Plateau, Grigno offers an alpine setting with a strong identity where live music and voices receive a warm welcome from the local community.
A widespread, free, and sustainable festival
The formula is as simple as it is ambitious: all events are free of charge and feature young international artists selected for the Belcanto Academy Opera Studio advanced training program. Singers, pianists, and, on some evenings, the Young OperaLab Orchestra perform a program ranging from the most famous arias and duets to complete productions of major repertoire titles.
The festival involves some of the most evocative locations in eastern Trentino—Levico Terme, Pergine Valsugana, Borgo Valsugana, Roncegno Terme, Castel Ivano, Castello Tesino, Calliano in Vallagarina, and the Vigolana Plateau—with Grigno among the stops in the weekly September series. The festival is produced in collaboration with municipal administrations and supported by the Autonomous Province of Trento; it has been awarded the Eco Eventi Trentino label, reflecting its commitment to environmental sustainability.

Valsugana and Vigolana Festival — edition 2026
2026 Edition: The 'Guerra Rustica' in music
The fifth edition of the Valsugana and Vigolana International Festival consists of thirteen free-admission events, from June to December 2026, under the artistic direction of Francesca Micarelli. The central theme is the 500th anniversary of the 'Guerra Rustica', the famous uprising of rural classes against the clergy and feudal power that marked the territory in the 16th century.
In Grigno, the festival stops on September 16, 2026, as part of the mid-September weekly concert series that also touches Vigolo Vattaro (September 15), Roncegno Terme (September 17), and Levico Terme (September 18). The protagonists are the young international singers and instrumentalists of the Belcanto Academy Opera Studio 2026, with a program dedicated to the most famous arias and duets of the great operatic repertoire.
The festival culminates in December with an innovative production of Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro", set in the Valsugana valley, with five performances from December 9 to 13. The 2026 edition has also been awarded the Eco Eventi Trentino label.
