Three days of whitewater kayaking on the Sesia River in Campertogno
The Valsesia River Festival is one of the most anticipated events for whitewater kayaking enthusiasts across Europe. It takes place in Campertogno, a small town in the upper Valsesia region in the province of Vercelli (Piedmont), with its headquarters at the Il Gatto e la Volpe campsite, nestled in a wooded meadow on the banks of the Sesia River in the Gabbio area.
Three days of adrenaline and fun dedicated to those who love wild water: Valsesia is renowned worldwide for its steep, low-volume creeking, featuring technical descents on narrow, steep streams. The Sesia and its tributaries (Sorba, Sermenza, Mastallone) offer sections for every skill level, from beginners to the most experienced paddlers.
The heart of the event is the race day, which combines team and individual challenges. The morning is dedicated to the Sesia Alpin Sprint Team Race, while the afternoon hosts the individual descent; the best then face off in the famous Sweet Rumble BoaterX, a "kayak fight club" that has been the festival's most spectacular moment since its inception. The event also features guided descents, accessible steep creeking clinics, film screenings, and entertainment, culminating in a big evening party with an awards ceremony.
Organized by Gene17Kayaking and promoted locally by Visit Monterosa, the Valsesia River Festival attracts paddlers from numerous countries every year, turning Campertogno and the entire Valsesia valley into the European capital of whitewater for a weekend. The atmosphere is typical of the kayaking community: sportsmanship, sharing, and a great desire to connect between one descent and the next.
The town of Campertogno is located along the Valsesia state road, at the foot of the Monte Rosa massif. The Il Gatto e la Volpe campsite, in the Gabbio area, offers pitches, bungalows, a refreshment area, and direct access to the river, serving as the meeting point, registration desk, and accommodation for festival participants.
