The Val di Non stage of the popular running championship of Val di Non and Piana Rotaliana
The Valli del Noce Championship is the most deeply rooted popular running championship in north-western Trentino: a multi-stage event that crosses the municipalities of Val di Non and Piana Rotaliana every spring. Among the scheduled races is the stage in Sporminore, a small village in the Val di Non in the province of Trento, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige.
This is not a race for specialists: it is a village run, designed to get entire families moving. The championship is open to everyone — children, teenagers, moms, dads, and grandparents — with athletes divided into numerous male and female categories, from minicuccioli (starting from age 4) to pioneers, the oldest age groups. It is this inclusive spirit, more than the stopwatch, that makes the event so beloved in the valleys.
The Sporminore stage is organized by US Robur Sporminore, a local amateur sports club founded in 1954 and built on volunteer work. Originally focused on village festivals and theater, since the mid-nineties it has dedicated itself exclusively to sports and currently manages soccer, five-a-side football, tennis, tamburello, and running in one of the most appreciated sports centers in the province.
The championship as a whole is linked to the CSI (Italian Sports Center) of Trento and is carried out by a group of valley associations: SC Fondisti, US Robur, USAM Baitona, Romallo Running, and ASD Atletica Rotaliana. The stages rotate from year to year among the different villages, so that each community can take turns hosting the celebration of running.
Each edition consists of several stages distributed between April and June. In each race, athletes accumulate points based on their category placement; at the end of the calendar, the final ranking by category and the club standings are drawn up, rewarding the association with the highest overall score.
Running a stage of the Valligiano in Sporminore means experiencing a day of village life: afternoon start, cheering along the route, children and seniors at the same finish line. It is the community spirit that for half a century has held the municipalities of Val di Non together around a simple passion: running. The event is part of the rich spring running calendar of Trentino.
The 50th edition of the Valli del Noce Championship brings the race back to Sporminore: the nonesa stage is scheduled for Sunday, May 3, 2026, with the start at 3:00 PM. In the 2025 edition, Sporminore was not among the host villages, but it returns fully to the championship route in the fiftieth-anniversary calendar.
The fiftieth anniversary is celebrated with initiatives dedicated to the memory of the event: the presentation of the book «I 50 anni del Valligiano», featuring photos, interviews with the founders, and historical material, and the initiative for children «Metti le ali ai 50 anni! Regalaci il tuo disegno» (Give wings to the 50 years! Give us your drawing). Several surprises are planned for the final.
