About Vallelonga Cycle Tour
A weekend of sport and nature in the heart of the Marsica
The Vallelonga Cycle Tour is an event dedicated to mountain biking and cycle tourism that brings Collelongo to life—a small village in the province of L'Aquila, located in the Marsica area of Abruzzo. Established in 2025 by the ASD Vallelongabike - I Sentieri del Lupo association, the ride has quickly become a key event that combines physical activity, slow tourism, and the promotion of the Abruzzo hinterland's landscapes.
Routes through the Vallelonga trails
The meeting point is Piazza Ara dei Santi, from where two itineraries designed to enhance the pleasure of cycling immersed in the nature of the Vallelonga depart:
- a long route of 42 km, with approximately 750 meters of elevation gain;
- a short route of 30 km, with approximately 450 meters of elevation gain.
Along the tracks, two refreshment points are set up, and for those who wish, e-bikes are available for rent by reservation, making the ride accessible even to those who are not expert cyclists.
More than just bikes: lavender fields and local specialties
The event is not just for two-wheel enthusiasts. For companions and those who prefer a more relaxed pace, a guided walk to the lavender fields is scheduled, offering a chance to spend a day in contact with the scents and beauty of the Vallelonga nature. The weekend is enriched by live music, street food, and tastings of local products, with the Saturday evening event held in Piazza San Rocco.
Sport, community, and slow tourism
More than just a race, the Vallelonga Cycle Tour is a true community celebration, fueled by the enthusiasm of the participants and the desire to rediscover the territory together. The format combines the sporting aspect with the tourism promotion of the Municipality of Collelongo and the Vallelonga, helping to showcase an authentic corner of the Abruzzo Region, nestled among the mountains, woods, and traditions of the Marsica.
Vallelonga Cycle Tour — edition 2026
The second edition
The 2nd Vallelonga Cycle Tour was held in Collelongo on the weekend of June 27-28, 2026. The evening of Saturday the 27th, starting at 5:00 PM in Piazza San Rocco, hosted the race pack collection, music, tastings of local products, and the "Street e Larg" street food event.
On Sunday, June 28, with the meeting point at Piazza Ara dei Santi, the two mountain bike routes set off: the long route of 42 km (750 m elevation gain) and the short route of 30 km (450 m). The day's program: pack collection from 7:30 AM, opening of stands and registration for the lavender field walk from 8:00 AM, departure at 9:00 AM, pasta party at 12:30 PM, and awards ceremony at 2:30 PM.
The event recorded 290 cyclists on the routes and 50 participants for the lavender field walk, confirming itself as an event that combines sport, slow tourism, and the discovery of the Abruzzo hinterland landscape.

How to get there
Collelongo can be reached by car via the A25 motorway (Avezzano or Cocullo exit), continuing towards the Vallelonga. The nearest train station is Avezzano, on the Rome-Pescara line.
Registration and fees
Registration is available on the ENDU platform and at www.vallelongabike.it. The participation fee for the cycle tour is 20 euros; the lavender field walk for companions is 15 euros. A race pack is provided for the first 200 registrants, including refreshments on the route and a final pasta and beer party.
