A widespread festival blending art, memory, and community in the hamlets of Valle Grana
The Valle Grana Cultural Village is much more than a festival: it is the public showcase of a broad social and cultural regeneration project involving the municipalities of Monterosso Grana and Pradleves, in the Grana Valley in the province of Cuneo (Piedmont). Funded with over two million euros by the Ministry of Culture's PNRR Borghi call (NextGenerationEU funds), the project aims to revitalize five mountain hamlets โ San Pietro, Combetta, Santa Lucia di Comboscuro, Frise, and the Cialancia hamlet of Pradleves โ through art, research, and local community participation.
For two days, the hamlets transform into an open-air stage. The program interweaves different languages: contemporary art, with site-specific installations from the Entre Nous project curated in collaboration with Paratissima; photography, with exhibitions dedicated to the faces and legends of the valley; literature, with narrated walks along ancient trails; and Occitan music, the sonic identity of these highlands with their Provenรงal language and culture.
The common thread is memory: that of the migrations that have marked the valley's history, the trades of the past, and the fairy tales and legends passed down by the fireside. It is no coincidence that the festival is the final step of the "Memorie migranti" (Migrant Memories) project, which also led to a twinning between Monterosso Grana and the French commune of Le Bar-sur-Loup. The installations, exhibitions, and meetings are not imposed from above, but stem from research work with the inhabitants and artistic residencies carried out in the area.
With free admission to almost all initiatives, the Valle Grana Cultural Village is an invitation to slow down and rediscover the value of the Piedmontese highlands.
The 2026 edition brought the hamlets of the Grana Valley to life for two days with a rich, widespread program, marking the final step of the "Memorie migranti" project. Highlights included installations from the Entre Nous project curated with Paratissima, photography exhibitions dedicated to the faces and legends of the valley, and experimental Occitan music concerts. All initiatives were born from research work with the local community and artistic residencies carried out in the Monterosso Grana and Pradleves area.
Monterosso Grana and Pradleves can be reached by car from Cuneo by driving up the Grana Valley (about 30-40 minutes). There is no direct train service to the valley: the reference station is Cuneo, from where you can continue by car or local transport.
As this is a widespread festival spanning multiple hamlets, free shuttle services between meeting points are provided during the event days. Comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for mountain trails are recommended.
Admission to the events is free; some activities (guided excursions, gastronomic tastings) require booking and, in the case of tastings, a contribution. Reservations are made through the organizers indicated in the program. For information: [email protected].
