The multi-stage running tour of the Fassa Dolomites
The Val di Fassa Running is one of the longest-running and most captivating multi-stage races in the Dolomites. Every June, the race traverses the Val di Fassa, a Ladin valley nestled among some of the most iconic peaks in Trentino-Alto Adige—from the Sella Group to the Catinaccio, and from the Marmolada to the Sassolungo. The event is organized by the Val di Fassa Grandi Eventi association, based in the municipality of San Giovanni di Fassa-Sèn Jan and Canazei, in the Province of Trento.
The format is a multi-stage running tour: five stages held on consecutive days, each between 6 and 12 kilometres long, for a total of approximately 45 kilometres. The stages pass through the valley's main villages—Canazei, Vigo di Fassa, Campitello di Fassa, Pozza di Fassa (a district of San Giovanni di Fassa-Sèn Jan), and Passo San Pellegrino—alternating between road, dirt tracks, and mountain trails, with elevation gains that increase progressively toward the more challenging high-altitude stages.
The event is not reserved solely for competitive athletes: alongside the main race, there is a dedicated route for walkers who wish to experience the stages at a more leisurely pace, as well as a day for children with the Kids Race. This dual nature—sporting and recreational—makes Val di Fassa Running a popular event that draws thousands of participants and enthusiasts, with around 170 registered athletes in recent editions and a significant tourism impact for the valley.
Organized by Val di Fassa Grandi Eventi, the race is a staple of the Trentino summer outdoor calendar, showcasing the territory of the Ladin community of Fassa and its UNESCO World Heritage Dolomite landscapes. Registrations are managed via the ENDU platform, and the event is followed by a loyal audience that gathers at the finish lines throughout the valley every year.
The 2026 Val di Fassa Running, marking its 25th edition, was held from June 21 to 26, 2026, with approximately 170 participants. The major highlight of the year was the inaugural evening prologue, which started at 6:00 PM in Canazei.
As per tradition, alongside the competitive race, the route dedicated to walkers was offered again, allowing participants to experience the stages within the beautiful nature of the Ladin valley.
