About Umbria Tango Festival

For a few summer days, Castiglione del Lago transforms into the Italian capital of Argentine tango. The Umbria Tango Festival brings dancers from all over Europe and the world to dance under the stars, with the scenic backdrop of the Rocca del Leone and milongas overlooking Lake Trasimeno. Shows, sentimental milongas, lessons, and dancing brunches liven up this now historic event for tango enthusiasts, conceived and organized by Paolo Selmi.

Tango arrives on Lake Trasimeno

The Umbria Tango Festival is one of the most anticipated events for Argentine tango enthusiasts in Italy. After numerous editions in Umbria, the festival has found its home in Castiglione del Lago, a village overlooking Lake Trasimeno in the province of Perugia, which for a few days in July fills with music, embraces, and dance steps.

A dream setting

The heart of the festival is the Rocca del Leone, the medieval fortress that dominates the village: its open-air theater hosts the evening shows and the main milongas. During the day, the celebration moves to the lakefront, among the venues of the Merangola and panoramic viewpoints, with dancing brunches that combine good food and tango.

An international event

Conceived and organized by Paolo Selmi, the Umbria Tango Festival attracts hundreds of tangueros from all over Europe and Latin America. The artistic direction has been entrusted to world tango champions and vice-champions, and each edition features live orchestras, specialized DJs (the so-called tangueros), internationally renowned dancers, and lessons also open to beginners.

Why it's worth it

The festival combines two great attractions: the overwhelming passion of Argentine tango and the beauty of Lake Trasimeno, one of Umbria's most evocative locations. Dancing at sunset with the lake as a backdrop or dancing in the courtyard of the Rocca are experiences that make this event a classic of the Umbrian summer calendar.

The 2026 edition of the Umbria Tango Festival returns to Castiglione del Lago from July 3 to 12, confirming the formula that has made the event famous: evening milongas, shows, lessons, and convivial moments overlooking Lake Trasimeno.
