Argentine tango on the shores of Lake Trasimeno
The Umbria Tango Festival is one of the most anticipated events for Argentine tango enthusiasts in Italy. After numerous editions in Umbria, the event has found its home in Castiglione del Lago, a village overlooking Lake Trasimeno in the province of Perugia, which for a few days in July fills with music, embraces, and dance steps.
The heart of the festival is the Rocca del Leone, the medieval fortress that dominates the village: its open-air theatre hosts the evening shows and the main milongas. During the day, the festivities move to the lake shores, among the venues of the Merangola and the panoramic viewpoints, with dancing brunches that combine good food and tango.
Conceived and organized by Paolo Selmi, the Umbria Tango Festival attracts hundreds of tangueros from all over Europe and Latin America. The artistic direction has been entrusted to world tango champions and vice-champions, and each edition features live orchestras, specialized DJs (the so-called tangueros), internationally renowned dancers, and lessons open to beginners as well.
The festival combines two great attractions: the overwhelming passion of Argentine tango and the beauty of Lake Trasimeno, one of the most suggestive places in Umbria. Dancing at sunset with the lake as a backdrop or dancing in the courtyard of the Rocca are experiences that make this event a classic of the Umbrian summer calendar.
The 2026 edition of the Umbria Tango Festival returns to Castiglione del Lago from July 3 to 12, confirming the formula that has made the event famous: evening milongas, shows, lessons, and convivial moments overlooking Lake Trasimeno. The complete program, with the names of the guest masters and orchestras, will be published by the organization in the weeks preceding the event.
