Under 10 youth mini-rugby tournament in memory of Ugo Baracchi
The Ugo Baracchi Tournament is one of the most anticipated spring events in Roman mini-rugby. Reserved for the Under 10 category, it takes place over a single day on the Unione Rugby Capitolina pitches at Via Flaminia 867, in the Due Ponti (Flaminio Nord) district of Rome, Lazio. The 2026 edition, the fifteenth, was held on Sunday, April 26th.
What makes the Baracchi Tournament special is its approach: no final rankings and no trophies for winners or losers. At this age, the organizers explain, children already know what really matters: playing and having fun together. Sport thus becomes a tool rather than an end, an opportunity for growth rather than competition.
During the event, the young athletes test themselves with rugby matches, motor-skill games, and educational moments designed to stimulate attention, language, and cognitive skills. A special space is dedicated to the «Play sports, read a book» project, an initiative by the Italian Rugby Federation that combines physical movement with reading development.
The 2026 edition featured several clubs from the Lazio rugby scene, including Frascati Rugby Club, Rugby Roma Olimpic Club, Lazio Rugby, Primavera Rugby, Unione Rugby Ladispoli, and Montevirginio Rugby, for a day of shared sport dedicated to the values of the oval ball.
The tournament is dedicated to the memory of Ugo Baracchi, a co-founder of the Unione Rugby Capitolina, the club that has been promoting rugby in Rome since 1996. It is a way to connect the club's history to its most authentic values and pass them on to the new generations of young players in the Municipality of Rome, Lazio.
The 2026 edition, the fifteenth, brought together young Under 10 rugby teams from the Lazio region for a day of play and fun. In addition to the matches, the children participated in motor-skill games and the federal project «Play sports, read a book». Among the clubs present: Frascati Rugby Club, Rugby Roma Olimpic Club, Lazio Rugby, Primavera Rugby, Unione Rugby Ladispoli, and Montevirginio Rugby.
