A Halloween party born from the neighborhood

Balduween is the Halloween festival of the Balduina district, located in the northern quadrant of Rome (Municipality XIV, Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, Lazio). The event is conceived and organized by the Comitato Civico Balduina'S, a network of residents, merchants, and associations that has been enlivening neighborhood life for years with free events in the squares: from the Carnival costume party to the Wine & Food Week, and of course, the evening of October 31st.

Born as a small neighborhood initiative, Balduween has grown into one of the most popular local Halloween festivals in the capital, attracting hundreds of children and families from neighboring areas like Monte Mario, Trionfale, and Primavalle. The event's purpose goes beyond mere entertainment: the association presents it as a way to safely activate public spaces, restoring the squares' function as meeting places for all generations.

How the day unfolds

The well-tested format is divided into three moments and three locations within the neighborhood, all reachable on foot via a short, flat route.

• The Piazza della Balduina park kicks off the festivities in the early afternoon: face painting by professional artists, entertainment, music, and Halloween-themed games (from the 'balloon game' to the witch's hat toss challenge).
• The 'trick-or-treat' parade then winds through the streets of the district, passing through Largo Maccagno: children, accompanied by parents, grandparents, and entertainers, knock on the doors of participating local businesses, which welcome them with candies and small gifts.
• Piazza Giovenale hosts the grand finale, transformed into a Halloween village with themed quizzes, a costume parade, awards for the best masks, and music for all ages.

An event for families

Balduween is primarily designed for preschool and primary school children, but the format warmly welcomes teenagers and adults in costume as well. Participation is free and requires no registration: just show up in the square, preferably in costume. Over the years, the association has complemented the event with promotional vouchers downloadable from their website, offered by the neighborhood's sponsor shops and venues.

Balduina, a neighborhood to discover

The district rises on the slopes of Monte Mario, the highest hill in the city, and retains a strong residential identity, characterized by 1950s and 60s apartment buildings, historic shops, and tree-lined squares. A few minutes away, you will find the Monte Mario Park, with its viewpoints overlooking the dome of St. Peter's, and the Monte Mario Astronomical Observatory.
