The youth arts festival in the historic center of Sutri
The Tuscia Youth Festival is an event dedicated by the Municipality of Sutri to the younger generation and their creativity. For three days during the second weekend of July, the historic center of one of Italy's most beautiful villages turns into a widespread stage: squares, streets, historic buildings, and scenic viewpoints host concerts, shows, literary readings, painting performances, and meetings entirely dedicated to young people and their talents. The stated goal is to showcase local young artists and provide them with concrete spaces for visibility, dialogue, and growth.
The event began in the summer of 2025 as «A Sutri luglio è in...Canto – Sutri Youth Festival», a music festival open to new talents that enlivened Piazza del Comune with live evening performances supported by the Lazio Region. In 2026, the event grew and was renamed the Tuscia Youth Festival, broadening its scope to the entire province of Viterbo and expanding the range of disciplines, from classical, pop, and rock music to singing, dance, painting, sculpture, writing, itinerant theater, and street arts.
The heart of the festival lies in the evening «inCanto» concert series in Piazza del Comune—inCanto Generation, inCanto Kids, and inCanto Rock—which gives a voice to emerging singers and bands. Surrounding these events is a packed calendar: classical music concerts in the Municipal Atrium featuring young musicians from the S. Rosa Music High School, readings and monologues by the Teatro S. Leonardo of Viterbo, free demonstrations and lessons in Japanese fencing and martial arts in Piazza della Rocca, impromptu painting performances with the «Lorenzo da Viterbo» Academy of Fine Arts, dance exhibitions, and late-night DJ sets.
The festival is also an invitation to discover Sutri, the «Ancient City» of northern Lazio, a village of Etruscan origins nestled on a tuff spur along the Via Cassia and the Via Francigena, famous for its Roman amphitheater carved entirely into the rock. Strolling through the alleys of the historic center during the festival evenings means combining youthful art and millennial heritage into a unique experience.
The Tuscia Youth Festival is promoted by the Municipality of Sutri with the support of the Lazio Region and the Province of Viterbo. All shows are free to attend: a choice that makes the festival an occasion open to families, visitors, and curious onlookers, confirming Sutri’s vocation as the city of youth arts in Tuscia.
The 2026 edition marks the transformation of the Sutri Youth Festival into the Tuscia Youth Festival: from July 10 to 12, the historic center of Sutri becomes a widespread stage where young people showcase their talent through classical, pop, and rock music, singing, dance, painting, sculpture, writing, and theater. The evenings culminate in Piazza del Comune with the «inCanto» concert series, dedicated respectively to the new generation, children, and rock music, while during the day, Palazzo Doebbing, the Municipal Atrium, Piazza della Rocca, and the Antico Lavatoio host meetings, painting performances, classical concerts, readings, and martial arts.
Participants include young actors from the Teatro S. Leonardo of Viterbo, musicians from the S. Rosa Music High School directed by Anna Lisa Bellini, the «Lorenzo da Viterbo» Academy of Fine Arts, TWKDO Italia for Japanese fencing, and Inside Danza Studio. The event, promoted by the Municipality of Sutri with the support of the Lazio Region and the Province of Viterbo, is entirely free.
Sutri is located in the province of Viterbo, along the Via Cassia, about 50 km north of Rome and 30 km south of Viterbo. By car: SS2 Via Cassia, Sutri exit. By bus: Cotral connections from Rome Saxa Rubra station and from Viterbo. The events take place in the historic center, which is entirely pedestrian-friendly.
Free admission to all shows and open workshops of the festival.
Summer evenings in Tuscia can be cool: a light jacket is recommended for the concerts in the square. Nearby, the Roman amphitheater and the Park of the Ancient City of Sutri are well worth a visit.
