An Etruscan village dressed in mystery

Sutri, an ancient Etruscan and Roman city nestled on a tuff spur along the Via Cassia in the province of Viterbo, is one of the most evocative villages in Lazio: the amphitheater carved into the rock, the rock-hewn necropolis, and the mithraeum make it a famous stop on the Via Francigena. On the evening of October 31st, this setting, already steeped in history, lends itself perfectly to the Halloween atmosphere: the medieval alleys fill with lanterns, glowing pumpkins, and scary creatures wandering the town in search of treats and mischievous tricks.

The horror village

Starting in the late afternoon, usually from 5 PM, the historic center turns into a true horror village designed specifically for families. The route winds through the squares and alleys of the village, featuring themed sets, horror corners set up by volunteers, and costumed characters who welcome visitors with colors, music, and entertainment. Fear here is always playful: the goal is to entertain the little ones, not to terrify them.

Activities for children and families

• Fear Tunnel: the most adrenaline-pumping part of the route, featuring special effects and chilling surprises;
• Horror stations scattered along the alleys of the historic center;
• Candies and gadgets distributed to all children for the traditional trick-or-treat;
• Face painting to transform into little witches, vampires, and monsters;
• Magic shows and performances by costumed street artists;
• Zombie Disco: themed music and dancing to end the evening on a high note.

A nationally awarded event

The Halloween festival in Sutri is not just simple local entertainment: the initiative received the prestigious Italive.it award – "Il territorio dal vivo" as the best event for children and teenagers, a recognition presented in Rome as part of a project that has been highlighting the best events organized in Italy for over a decade. A testament that confirms the quality of the setup and the care dedicated to families.

Organization

The event is strongly supported by the Municipality of Sutri and organized by the local association L'Unione fa la Forza, which mobilizes dozens of volunteers every year to decorate the village. Participation is completely free: an afternoon and evening of fun accessible to everyone, in the full communal spirit of the Tuscia festivals.

Halloween in the Viterbo Tuscia

The province of Viterbo has become one of the Italian capitals of Halloween: from Corchiano to Carbognano, passing through the capital, many villages in the Tuscia region set up themed routes between October 31st and early November. Sutri, where the festival has been documented at least since 2018 with its famous scary route, has carved out a role as a reference point for children: a playful way to experience the village in autumn, when the Lazio region offers the best of its seasonal colors and flavors.
