The blooming of wild tulips in the park of the Royal Castle of Govone
Every year, at the end of March, the park of the Royal Castle of Govone turns a deep, vibrant red: it is the time of the spontaneous blooming of the Tulipa oculus solis praecox, the rare wild tulip known as the "sun's eye." This natural spectacle is the heart of Tulipani a Corte, a spring event that for over twenty years has drawn botany enthusiasts, families, and tourists to Govone, a small town in the Roero area of the Cuneo province.
The setting is one of the most evocative in Piedmont: the Royal Castle of Govone is part of the system of Savoy Residences inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. During the event, visitors can explore the castle, the Royal Chapel, and the nearby Church of the Holy Spirit, admiring the 18th-century interiors and the famous frescoed halls.
The day weaves together several themes. There is the naturalistic side, with guided TuliPasseggiate walks to discover the wild tulips, a protected species that represents a precious element of local biodiversity. There is the historical dimension, with the re-enactment by the Le Vie del Tempo group, which brings the village and the castle to life. And there is the local tradition, with a market, readings for children, and lunch featuring typical products paired with wines from Govone's wineries.
With animated readings for children, walks, photography exhibitions, and tastings, Tulipani a Corte is designed as a day to be savored slowly, immersed in the greenery of the park and the tranquility of the Roero region. It is a perfect opportunity to discover a lesser-known corner of the Langhe and Roero, far from the most crowded tourist destinations but equally rich in history, landscapes, and flavors.
The 26th edition of Tulipani a Corte brought the Royal Castle of Govone to life on Sunday, March 29, 2026, with special opening hours from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. A day entirely dedicated to the blooming of wild tulips in the park of the Savoy residence, enriched by a full program of tours, walks, family activities, and cultural moments.
All day: historical re-enactment by the Le Vie del Tempo group, photography exhibition by Marco Mezzani as part of Govone Arte, village market with roving entertainment, and lunch by the Pro Loco of Govone featuring local wines.
