The historic hill climb of Gubbio, the 'Monte Carlo of the Slopes'
The Trofeo Luigi Fagioli is one of the most prestigious hill climbs in Italy, dedicated to Luigi Fagioli, a driver from Gubbio and a legend of motorsport, the only winner of a Formula 1 Grand Prix (France 1951) at the age of 53. The race takes place in Gubbio, in the province of Perugia, on a spectacular 4.150-meter track that climbs from the city gates to Madonna della Cima, passing through the historic Gola del Bottaccione.
The hill climb, valid for the Italian Mountain Speed Championship (CIVM), attracts drivers and cars from all over Italy, with the participation of modern cars and a large contingent of historic cars. The course, described as 'compact but selective', tests the technique and courage of the drivers through curves, hairpin bends, and fast sections, providing excitement for thousands of spectators positioned along the track.
Nicknamed the 'Monte Carlo of the Slopes', the Trofeo Fagioli is organized by the Comitato Eugubino Corse Automobilistiche (CECA) and is one of the most keenly felt sporting events in Umbria, managing to combine the adrenaline of racing with the beauty of the Gubbio landscape.
The 61st edition of the Trofeo Luigi Fagioli will take place from August 21 to 23, 2026, on the classic 4.150-meter track that climbs from Gubbio to Madonna della Cima through the Gola del Bottaccione. The 2026 edition holds particular importance: it will be the penultimate round of the Italian Supersalita Championship (CIVM), with a scoring coefficient increased to 1.5, and could prove decisive for the awarding of the Italian titles in each category.
The weekend includes practice sessions and the race for both modern and historic cars, and can also be followed live on Sky thanks to ACI Sport and ACI Sport TV. The event is organized by the Comitato Eugubino Corse Automobilistiche (CECA).
