Historic cars and Ferrari Tribute in Piazza Martiri della Libertà for the world's most beautiful race
The 1000 Miglia is the historical reenactment of the legendary Brescia-Rome-Brescia race, a regularity competition for vintage cars built between 1927 and 1957. Every year its route crosses some of Italy's most evocative locations, and among these is Gualdo Tadino, a town in the province of Perugia at the foot of the Umbrian-Marche Apennines.
In the city center, in Piazza Martiri della Libertà, the stamp check is set up: the cars stop for the road book stamping, offering the public the chance to admire over 400 historic vehicles up close. The procession is opened by the Ferrari Tribute, followed by the cars of the historical reenactment, including pre-war Alfa Romeos, iconic Ferraris, Jaguar C-Types, and Maseratis.
While not a traditional sagra (food festival) or village festival, the passage of the 1000 Miglia is one of the most keenly felt events by the Gualdo community and is included in the rich calendar of the Estate Gualdese (Summer Gualdese). For the city, it represents a showcase for tourism promotion and a moment of popular celebration around the myth of vintage motoring.
For 2026, the 1000 Miglia will return to Umbria on Friday, June 12, touching Assisi, Foligno, Gualdo Tadino, and Gubbio. In Gualdo Tadino, in Piazza Martiri della Libertà, the stamp check is scheduled. The procession, consisting of over 400 historic cars that started from Brescia, will enter the territory from Assisi along the SP270 and then continue towards Gubbio and the Gola del Furlo. The passage coincides with the celebrations for the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis.
Program for the passage in Gualdo Tadino — Friday, June 12, 2026, Piazza Martiri della Libertà (indicative times, subject to the race's progress):
Among the cars in the race: 24 pre-war Alfa Romeos, 12-cylinder Ferraris (166 MM, 250 MM), Jaguar C-Types, and Maserati A6 GCS. Timed trials "Voltole" are planned within the municipal territory.
