Amateur road cycling race in the heart of Salento
The Trofeo GSC Arnesano is a road cycling race dedicated to amateur riders registered with the Italian Cycling Federation (FCI), held in Arnesano, a small town of about three thousand inhabitants in the province of Lecce, nestled between the Salento capital and the Valle della Cupa. Organized by ASD GSC Arnesano, the event has established itself in just a few seasons as one of the most popular fixtures on the Apulian amateur calendar, capable of attracting over one hundred and fifty male and female athletes from the Master categories to the starting line.
The race is held on a closed-traffic urban circuit, with the start and finish in the center of Arnesano. The track, approximately 5.3 kilometers long and repeated multiple times, is flat and fast, as dictated by the topography of Upper Salento: an inaugural tourist lap followed by competitive laps, for a total distance approaching 75 kilometers. The route brushes against the historic center, with its stone features and 20th-century architecture, before opening up towards the agricultural landscape of the Valle della Cupa, amidst olive groves and the dry-stone walls typical of the Salento countryside.
ASD GSC Arnesano carries on the legacy of the GS Albanese Arnesano di Lecce, a historic club founded in 1972 and considered one of the most important entities in the Salento cycling scene of that era. The Trophy, established in 2023, has brought top-tier amateur cycling back to the town's streets, combining a sporting spirit with the promotion of the local area and involving the community in a day of celebration.
Beyond its local importance, the race holds significant weight on the regional stage: it is a stage of the Cicloamatour, the Apulian amateur cycling championship, and in some editions, it hosts the FCI Puglia Master Regional Road Championship. Athletes compete for valuable points towards the overall and category rankings of the regional tour.
The event is held under the patronage of the Arnesano Municipal Administration and is now a highly anticipated moment not only for cycling enthusiasts but also for the town's residents, who bring the circuit to life throughout the race. It is an event that blends sport, social interaction, and the promotion of an authentic corner of Salento, Puglia.
The fourth edition of the Trofeo GSC Arnesano took place on Sunday, April 12, 2026, with the meeting point at 7:30 AM in Largo Palazzo Marchesale and the start along Via Materdomini. Organized by ASD GSC Arnesano with the patronage of the Municipality of Arnesano, the race was designated as the sole round of the 2026 FCI Puglia Master Regional Championship and served as a stage of the Cicloamatour, with bonus points for the overall and category rankings of the regional tour.
The track, approximately 5.3 km long and repeated 14 times (one inaugural lap plus thirteen competitive ones) for a total of 74.2 km, proved to be flat and suitable for a fast race, between the historic center and the countryside of the Valle della Cupa. About 160-170 athletes, male and female FCI-registered Master riders, were expected at the start.
Arnesano is about 8 km from Lecce and is easily accessible by car via the SP4. The nearest train station is in Lecce, served by Trenitalia and Ferrovie del Sud Est lines. The reference airport is Brindisi-Salento, about 50 km away.
The race is reserved for FCI-registered athletes in the Master categories. Registration is handled through the organizing club's portal. The public can watch for free along the urban circuit.
