Three days of canine sports, featuring agility and hoopers in the Canavese region
The Trofeo delle Vaude is a premier event for canine sports enthusiasts in Piedmont. It takes place in Vauda Canavese, a small town in the Metropolitan City of Turin, at the Centro Cinofilo delle Vaude (Via Torino 46), a facility nestled in nature on the edge of the Vaude Nature Reserve. For an entire weekend, the center transforms into a large competition arena where dog-and-handler teams challenge each other in two complementary disciplines: agility and hoopers.
Agility dog is the most well-known discipline: the handler guides their dog through an obstacle course (jumps, tunnels, slalom poles, walkways), aiming to complete it in the fastest time possible without penalties. Hoopers, on the other hand, is a more recent and accessible variant, featuring courses with hoops, tunnels, and barrels, while excluding jumps and physically demanding obstacles. This makes it suitable for dogs of all ages and sizes, including older dogs or those not suited for intense physical strain.
The event is held under the aegis of CSEN and FIDASC, two organizations that regulate and govern canine competitions in Italy. CSEN competitions are spread across all three days for both disciplines, while FIDASC events round out the weekend program. Qualified judges from the sector oversee the courses.
The heart of the event is the Trofeo delle Vaude itself, a special award given to the top-ranked participants in each category who compete across all days of the event. More than just a prize, it is a recognition of consistency, the bond between dog and handler, and the effort invested throughout the entire event. The atmosphere is typical of great canine gatherings: close-knit groups, families, trainers, and fans who share a passion for the relationship with their dogs.
Beyond the sporting aspect, the Trofeo delle Vaude serves as a promotional opportunity for Vauda Canavese and the entire Canavese region, a hilly and natural area in northern Piedmont. Throughout the year, the Centro Cinofilo delle Vaude offers courses, workshops, and numerous disciplines (from agility to rally obedience, mantrailing, and nose detection), cementing its status as a benchmark for canine sports in Northwest Italy.
