The spring classic of women's Junior cycling in the Piacenza area
The Trofeo Città di Gossolengo is a road cycling race dedicated to Women Juniors (athletes born in 2008 and 2009) held in the Municipality of Gossolengo, on the outskirts of Piacenza, in Emilia-Romagna. Now in its fifth edition in 2026, the race has carved out a leading role in a few years in the spring calendar of youth women's cycling in northern Italy, attracting teams from all over the peninsula and abroad.
The route winds for about 84 kilometers starting from the center of Gossolengo and heading towards the first heights of the Luretta Valley and the Trebbia Valley. The race passes through the towns of Tuna, Gazzola, Rivalta, and Momeliano, tackling two challenging climbs: the ascent to Rezzanello Castle (4.2 km at 5.3%) and the short climb of Momeliano (2.7 km at 5.3%). It is a design that rewards complete riders, capable of keeping pace uphill but also of contesting the sprint at the finish line in Via Matteotti.
The Trofeo is not just a local race: it awards the title of Emilia-Romagna Regional Championship for the category and represents the final stage of the "Due Giorni del Ducato" Challenge, which begins on Saturday in Bianconese, in the province of Parma. The event also inherits the legacy of two other historic competitions in the area, combining the Trofeo with the Trofeo Alberto Biondi and the Memorial Rino Andrina. Each edition offers four jerseys: yellow (overall leader), white (best rider born in 2009), green (mountains classification), and red (points classification for sprints).
The race is organized by the club BFT Burzoni VO2 Team Pink in collaboration with GS Podenzano and the Parma cycling school. The presentation traditionally takes place in the days preceding the race in the Gossolengo town hall, in the presence of municipal authorities and representatives of the Piacenza cycling scene. For the Municipality of Gossolengo, the event is now a village sports festival, with the gathering in Piazza Roma and the roads closed to traffic to welcome athletes, technicians, and fans.
The 2026 edition, valid as the Emilia-Romagna Regional Championship for Women Juniors and the final stage of the "Due Giorni del Ducato" Challenge, saw just over one hundred athletes representing 18 teams at the start. The 84 km course, with the double climbs of Momeliano and Rezzanello tackled from different sides, proved challenging but did not produce a decisive selection: everything was decided in the final sprint on Via Matteotti. Former world champion Alessandro Ballan, father of the winner, and the Italian national coach Marco Velo were also present at the finish line.
