In Rio San Martino di Scorzè, a hamlet in the municipality of Miranese in the province of Venice, autumn is dedicated to a product that is almost a symbol of the Veneto region: Treviso Red Chicory IGP, defined as "the winter flower that you eat" for its elegant shape and bitter taste. The Red Chicory Festival has celebrated its excellence for over forty years, and it is one of the most important autumn festivals in the area.

Dozens of chicory-based dishes

The food stand, with ample covered spaces, is the heart of the festival: red chicory is featured in dozens of recipes, including:

• Risotto and gnocchi with chicory
• Grilled chicory and chicory with polenta
• Cooked salami with chicory
• The Treviso-style porchetta with red chicory

Culture, music, and tradition

Alongside the food, the festival offers a rich program: photographic exhibitions, popular games, re-enactments, markets, local craft exhibitions, themed dinners, and guided tastings, conferences on the product, and musical evenings with nationally renowned artists. Among the characteristic events are the San Martino Challenge Award, a food and wine competition for hotel management schools, and fireworks.

Organization

The event is organized by Pro Loco Scorzè and takes place on Via Onaro in Rio San Martino. It promotes an IGP product grown in large quantities in this municipality, part of the agricultural tradition of the Marca and the Veneto region.
