An evening of traditional Fiemme Valley dances in the heart of Carano
In the heart of the Fiemme Valley, the small village of Carano — part of the municipality of Ville di Fiemme in the province of Trento — hosts an annual summer evening of traditional dance performed by the Carano Folk Group. The event is part of the Trentino Giro Folk circuit, a project that brings together cultural circles, folk groups, and youth organizations from across Trentino to preserve and share the region's rich heritage of songs, music, and dance.
The Carano Folk Group was founded in 1973 by a group of young people dedicated to promoting local folklore. Today, it consists of about twenty members accompanied by Bepi on the accordion. Their repertoire is diverse and vibrant: at its core is the ancient Fiemme seven-step dance, alongside performances that recreate the valley's old trades — the cobbler (calgiae), the lumberjack (boscer), the spool worker (el guindol), the hunter (Jaeghermarch), and the miner — as well as dances depicting courtship or rooted in traditions brought by immigrants.
During the event, the group performs in traditional attire, often in dialogue with guest ensembles invited for the occasion, creating a festive atmosphere for both locals and tourists. The event is held outdoors; in case of rain, it is moved under the Carano festival marquee. Admission is free.
The village of Carano is deeply connected to Fiemme traditions, including ancient rituals like the Menar Bandiera of the Banderal, which takes place every four years during Carnival. This folk evening is part of a community that deeply cherishes its cultural heritage, offering visitors an authentic opportunity to discover the folklore of the Fiemme Valley.
The Carano folk evening took place on Friday, July 3, 2026, starting at 9:00 PM. The main act was the Carano Folk Group, which presented its repertoire of traditional Fiemme dances — from the ancient seven-step dance to performances inspired by the valley's old trades — accompanied by accordion music.
The guest of the evening was the Esteras quartet from Padua, invited to join the local group in a dialogue of traditions. The free-admission event was planned outdoors, with a move to the Carano festival marquee in case of rain.
