The ancient Milanese fair announcing spring in the Porta Romana district
Tredesin de Marz – the "thirteenth of March" in Milanese dialect – is a historic fair celebrating the arrival of spring in Milan. Its roots lie in the city's popular and devotional traditions, legendarily linked to the first Christian preaching in Milan. Today, the event thrives in the Porta Romana district, in Municipality 5.
The fair takes place along Via Crema, Via Piacenza, and Via Giulio Romano, with its heart at the oratory of the Church of Sant'Andrea. For an entire day, the streets come alive with stalls, themed gazebos, and initiatives involving cultural, sports, and social associations from the area, in a climate of widespread, family-friendly celebration.
The program is rich and designed for all ages: stalls and markets, workshops for children such as face painting and cookie tasting, musical performances with the Carabinieri Band, karate demonstrations, and a foosball tournament with prizes. Numerous gazebos showcase local realities, from beekeeping to volunteer associations.
Organized by the association Quei del Tredesin with the patronage of Municipality 5, Tredesin de Marz is a free event that renews the bond between Milan and its traditions each year. More than just a fair, it is a neighborhood ritual marking the change of season and bringing together the residents of Porta Romana for a day of outdoor celebration.
